Job summary

Nebraska Methodist Health System is seeking a Physician Assistant to join the Emergency Department in Omaha. You will provide medical care under physician supervision and perform minor procedures as needed, with a 0.9 FTE schedule across 36 hours per week and rotating days.

Must have graduated from an accredited PA program and hold an active PA license in the state. ACLS/BLS requirements apply; CME maintenance is expected, and prior APP experience is required.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program.
  • 2+ years Advanced Practice Provider (APP) experience required.
  • Current PA license in the state of practice without restrictions.
  • BLS strongly preferred at time of hire; ACLS required; PALS preferred.
  • Maintains CME requirements to keep PA licensure.

Responsibilities

  • Provide medical care to patients under the supervision of a physician and perform minor surgical procedures as approved.
  • Develop and communicate treatment plans to patients and families.
  • Perform physical examinations, order and interpret diagnostic tests, and document findings.
  • Collaborate with physicians and colleagues to coordinate care and referrals.
  • Respond promptly to patient needs and maintain compassionate, professional interactions.

Job Summary:

Location: Nebraska Methodist Hospital Emergency Department Address: 8303 Dodge Street, Omaha Work Schedule: .9 FTE at 36 hours per week. Rotating days, weekends, Holidays. Under the supervision of a physician provide medical care to patients and performs minor surgical procedures according to the approved privilege list.

Responsibilities:
  • Promotes positive relations when interacting with patients, visitors, families, physicians, customers and co-workers.
  • Greet, smiles and makes eye contact.
  • Introduces self by name.
  • Volunteers to help co-workers and other employees.
  • Addresses patients and others by surname.
  • Responds quickly to patients and/or other peoples' needs.
  • Knows and demonstrates 6 step customer complaint management process.
  • Under the supervision of a physician provide medical care to patients and performs minor surgical procedures according to the approved privilege list.
  • Perform physical examinations, suture simple lacerations, treat abrasions and burns, order and/or perform diagnostic tests, and document findings as appropriate.
  • Develops and communicates treatment plan to patients.
  • Formulates diagnostic impressions based on medical findings, consultation with patient and their family, and supervising physician as appropriate.
  • Communicates and implements treatment plan and diagnosis to patient.
  • Consults with supervising physician as necessary.
  • Refer complex patient situations to the supervising physician.
  • As assigned, performs face to face evaluation within 1 hour of notification for behavior health restraint need and approves reorders telephonically.
  • Duties must be performed within scope of practice and time frame set by the Medical Director.
Education:

Must be a graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program.

Experience:

2+ years Advanced Practice Provider (APP) experience required.

License/Certifications:
  • Current, valid, and maintained Physician Assistant (PA) license in the state working without restrictions required.
  • Must stay current with Continuing Medical Education (CME) requirements to maintain PA licensure.
  • Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) strongly preferred at time of hire, required within 3 months of hire.
  • Current American Heart Association Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required.
  • Current American Heart Association Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) preferred.
Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:

Skilled in promoting positive relations when interacting with patients or other customers.
