Job summary

Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in Texas is seeking a qualified Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner to augment the supervising physician's data gathering and patient care plans. You will provide health care services to patients under direction of a Physician and Medical Director.

The position involves taking detailed histories, performing exams, ordering tests, developing management plans, counseling patients, and teaching medical teams.

Qualifications

• Graduation from a Physician Assistant's training program approved by the Council on Allied Health Education Accreditation of the American Medical Association.
• OR
• Graduation from an accredited school of nursing as a nurse practitioner from an approved certification program recognized by Texas Board of Nursing.

Responsibilities

• Provides patient services under direct supervision and responsibility of the Physician and/or Medical Director.
• Elicits detailed patient histories.
• Examines patients, performs a comprehensive physical examination and compiles patient medical data, including health history and results of physical examination.
• Orders diagnostic tests, such as X-ray, electrocardiogram, and laboratory tests, and interprets test results for deviations from normal.
• Performs therapeutic procedures such as injections, immunizations, suturing and wound care and manages infections.
• Develops and implements patient management plans, records progress notes and assists in the provision of continuity of care.
• Instructs and counsels patients regarding compliance with prescribed therapeutic regimens, emotional problems of daily living and health maintenance.
• Rounds on and treat patients in hospitals on assigned service. Rounding may include up to 2 weekends per month.
• Participates in teaching efforts of the department of Surgery, such as seminars, conferences and special programs.
• Works with medical students and residents, nursing and allied health personnel as part of the acute care surgery team.
