Job summary

Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta seeks an Advanced Practice Provider to join the Complex Spine Surgery team at Scottish Rite. The APP will support medically complex surgical patients, initially within spine, with potential expansion to other orthopedic specialties.

Responsibilities include coordinating care across the surgical continuum, telemedicine visits, inpatient rounding, and first‑assist support for complex cases. Research experience is a plus.

Qualifications

• Licensure as a Registered Nurse in Georgia or multi-state via eNLC.
• Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) licensure in Georgia or Physician Assistant licensure in Georgia.
• Board certification as applicable (ANCC/AANP/PNCB/NCCPA).

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive patient care management for children in inpatient/ambulatory settings.
• Perform histories, physicals, and assess findings; order/interpret labs and tests.
• Develop treatment plans and serve as an educational resource for families and staff.
• Collaborate with physicians and other health care providers; coordinate referrals.

Job Description

The Orthopedics Program at Children’s is the only nationally ranked program of its kind for kids and teens in Georgia and the top program in the Southeast. We are seeking an Advanced Practice Provider (APP) to join our Complex Spine Surgery team based at Scottish Rite. This role will support the care of medically complex surgical patients, initially within the spine service, with the opportunity to expand into other orthopedic surgical specialties over time.

Responsibilities include coordinating care throughout the surgical continuum, conducting pre-operative and post-operative telemedicine visits, performing daily inpatient rounding, assisting with EDF and Mehta casting, and providing surgical first‑assist support for selected complex cases. Research experience is a plus.

Preferred Qualifications

2 years of experience in pediatric healthcare preferred

Doctorate degree in Nursing Practice or Master’s or Doctorate degree in Medical Science Education

Certification Summary

Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the single State of Georgia or Multi‑State through the Enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact and Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) licensure in the state of Georgia or licensure as a Physician Assistant in the state of Georgia

Certification as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse by the American Nurse Credentialing Center (ANCC), American Academy of Nurse Practitioner Certification Program (AANP), Pediatric Nursing Certification Board (PNCB), or National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA), (Certification as Family Nurse Practitioner may be acceptable with CNO approval)

Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association upon hire

Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) within 60 days of hire for Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants working in Emergency Medicine, Urgent Care, Anesthesia, Hematology/Oncology, and Critical Care (Nurse Practitioners or Physician Assistants working in Neonatology may provide Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification in lieu of PALS)

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Proficient knowledge of Georgia Scope of Practice for Nurse Practitioners and/or Physician Assistants, Joint Commission regulatory requirements and credentialing process of Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants

Excellent communication (written, spoken & presentation), organizational, and interpersonal skills

Demonstrates personal and professional integrity; collaborative and respectful behavior; flexibility and willingness to change

Job Responsibilities Clinical

Provide comprehensive patient care management within a collaborative practice model for children of all ages under the supervision of the supervising/collaborating physician within the scope of practice outlined by state statute and Children’s bylaws in the inpatient and/or ambulatory settings.

• Performing comprehensive histories and physical exams and identifying normal and abnormal findings, including physical, cognitive, and psychosocial status.
• Ordering and interpreting laboratory and diagnostic tests.
• Developing pharmaceutical and non‑pharmaceutical treatment plans.
• Serving as an educational resource for patients, families, health care professionals, and students.
• Facilitating patient referrals to other medical providers, medical facilities, and other health/social service agencies as needed.
• Collaborating and/or consulting with physicians and other health care providers as appropriate.

Continuously conducts self‑evaluation of advanced practice skills to ensure competent clinical care and continued self‑development. Assists in the development of education for department/practice.
