Job summary

The Christ Hospital in Cincinnati, OH seeks a Cardiac Surgery APP to join our inpatient practice. The role supports a program with multiple surgeons and APPs, including weekend and holiday rotations and an OR call schedule.

Qualifications

• 3-5 years cardiac surgery first assist experience.
• EVH proficiency preferred; radial artery harvesting encouraged.
• Ability to assist attending surgeon as first or second assistant; ICU rounds proficiency.

Responsibilities

• Provide cardiothoracic surgical first assist in the OR with 1:5 call schedule (split OR and clinical weekend coverage).
• Support daily ICU rounds and management of complex ICU patients pre- and post-operatively.
• Assist with CABG, valve, and aortic procedures; experience with mechanical circulatory support, ECMO, or transplant preferred.

Cardiothoracic Surgical First Assist

Shift: Full-time (1.0 FTE), Day

Location: This position is at The Christ Hospital main campus location, 2139 Auburn Ave Cincinnati, Ohio 45219.

Position Description: The Christ Hospital is seeking a Cardiac Surgery APP to add to our inpatient practice in Cincinnati, OH. The program currently has 7 Cardiac Surgeons, 1 dedicated Thoracic Surgeon, with 10 APPs. Includes weekend and holiday rotations as well as OR call. Call is 1:5 with split OR and clinical weekend coverage.

Education, License and Credentials: Required: Current NCCPA. Current BLS required and ACLS certification required DEA licenses required

Certified Nurse Practitioner: Acute Care, Adult, or Family Nurse Practitioner certification verified by the American Association of Critical Care Nurses (AACN), American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) or American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). Current, valid license (registration) by the Ohio Board of Nursing or applicable state board. NP must have First Assist certification.

OR

Physician Assistant: Graduate from an accredited physician assistant program with a Master's Degree Physician Assistant Certification (verified by the National Commission or the Certification of Physician Assistant - NCCPA. Current, valid license (registration) by the state Medical Board of Ohio or applicable state medical board. Current Certificate to prescribe by the State Medical Board of Ohio.

Preferred Skills:

• 3-5 years cardiac surgery first assist experience.
• Proficient in EVH. Radial artery harvesting is preferred but not required. Able to assist attending surgeon as either a first or second assistant. Participates in fundamental operating room techniques including aseptic technique, tying knots, hemostasis, tissue handling, primary closure of sternotomies, and leg incisions. Comfortable assisting with daily ICU rounds and managing
• complex ICU patients pre and post operatively. Will help with inpatient consults. Experience with CVICU procedures preferred (central lines, swans, arterial lines, chest tubes, etc.). Strong skills and experience in CABG, valve, and aortic surgery, etc. Prior experience with mechanical circulatory support, ECMO, and cardiac transplant preferred.
