Job summary

UTHealth Houston in Texas is seeking a dedicated Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to support patient care in the Texas Medical Center. This role involves conducting patient care procedures under physician oversight while collaborating with a dynamic healthcare team.

The Abdominal Organ Transplant Department is seeking a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join the team in the Texas Medical Center. What we do here changes the world. Position Summary

Provides patient care assistance in a clinic or hospital setting in one or more specialized areas under the direction of a primary care physician.

Position Key Accountabilities
  • Conduct complex, standardized patient care procedures that might otherwise be performed by a physician but do not constitute the practice of medicine.
  • Coordinate, direct, and implement the patient’s plan of care.
  • Order, conduct, and interpret pertinent laboratory and diagnostic studies and procedures.
  • Perform physical examinations and provide episodic or problem‑oriented care under physician supervision.
  • Order appropriate laboratory tests and interpret the data such as blood and urine samples.
  • Monitor the treatment program to inform the attending physician of pertinent medical information.
  • Make medical recommendations and/or referrals.
  • Formulate, implement, and evaluate an outcome‑based treatment plan.
  • Maintain appropriate records detailing the patient's treatment plans and outcomes.
  • Facilitate patient education on medical processes, medication, nutrition, and health promotion.
  • Collaborate with patients, families, other clinicians, and referral services to assist in recovery.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Certifications / Skills
  • Nurse Practitioner: Current Texas licensure as a registered nurse and as an APRN‑NP, plus required specialty certification; Basic Life Support (BLS) certified.
  • Physician Assistant: Current Texas licensure as a physician assistant, current certification from the National Commission of Certification of Physician Assistants, BLS certified, and proficient with medical and surgical instruments and equipment required by work.
Minimum Education
  • Nurse Practitioner: Master’s in Nursing as NP or master’s degree in Nursing with completion of a post‑master Nurse Practitioner Certification Program.
  • Physician Assistant: Master’s degree as Physician Assistant; alternatively a bachelor’s degree as a Physician Assistant with at least two years of professional experience in the role (acceptable based on terminal degree requirements).
