TTUHSC Managed Care is seeking a dedicated Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) to join our team at the TDCJ Lynaugh Unit. This is a unique opportunity to serve a population with significant medical needs while working within a supportive, collaborative environment.

About the Role

At the Lynaugh Unit, the clinical focus offers a broad and dynamic mix of primary care, chronic care management, and urgent care. You’ll have the opportunity to care for patients with a wide range of acute and chronic conditions while building valuable hands-on skills in a correctional healthcare setting. There are also excellent opportunities to learn and perform a variety of in-office procedures, including suturing, splinting, toenail removal, injections, and more.

Key responsibilities include:

• Provides patient services under direct supervision and responsibility of Physician and or Medical Director.
• Elicits detailed patient histories.
• Examines patient, performs comprehensive physical examination, and compiles patient medical data, including health history and results of physical examination.
• Administers or orders diagnostic tests, such as x-ray, electrocardiogram, and laboratory tests, and interprets test results for deviations from normal.
• Performs therapeutic procedures such as injections, immunizations, suturing and wound care, and managing infection.
• Develops and implements patient management plans, records progress notes, and assists in provision of continuity of care.
• Instructs and counsels patients regarding compliance with prescribed therapeutic regimens, emotional problems of daily living, and health maintenance.
• May render emergency medical service without supervision, pending the arrival of a responsible physician, in cases where immediate diagnosis and treatment are necessary to avoid disability or death.

Ideal Candidate

• Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant with current licensure in the State of Texas
• Comfortable working in a correctional or structured clinical environment (correctional experience helpful but not required)
• Strong assessment and triage skills
• Effective communicator with excellent clinical judgment
• Adaptable and able to thrive in a dynamic workflow where patient volume varies day-to-day
