Job summary

Michigan Medicine is seeking a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join the Rogel Cancer Center in a comprehensive hematology program. In this role, you will directly care for patients in the outpatient setting, perform histories and physicals, develop diagnoses, and collaborate with physicians to plan care and referrals.

You will also participate in clinical research and CME activities. Required credentials include Michigan RN licensure, NP/PA certification, DEA, BLS, and hematology

• Current licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in Michigan.
• Specialty certification to practice as a Nurse Practitioner in Michigan (Adult-Gerontology Acute Care/Primary Care NP, Adult NP, FNP or Acute NP).
• Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program.
• NCSBN-recognized NP certification.
• Current DEA registration.
• AHA Approved BLS.
• 2 years of APP experience.
• Clinical experience in hematology.

Responsibilities

• Management of a variety of hematology conditions
• Direct care and management of patients in the outpatient setting including: performing history and physical, evaluation, development of different diagnoses, collaborating with the physician to develop a plan of care, identification of individuals eligible for clinical trials, patient and family education, counseling and support, collaboration and referral to other services and provision of education to nursing staff, students and community providers.
• Management of treatment related toxicities
• Symptom management and palliative care
• Review of laboratory, pathology and radiographic test results
• Perform bone marrow biopsies
• Participation in hematology meetings
• Participation in clinical research
• Collaboration with other specialties within the Cancer Center in planning, implementing, and evaluating programs for increasing knowledge and skills
• Collaboration with other APPs in the care of this patient population including covering for colleagues when needed
• Participation in workshops, conferences or other CME activities pertaining to hematology
• Attend programmatic meetings or Cancer Center meetings and occasionally attend regional or national meetings

Roles and responsibilities may be periodically adjusted as determined by the needs of the Cancer Center Clinical Program.

Required Qualifications

NP

• Current licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Michigan
• Current specialty certification to practice as a Nurse Practitioner in the State of Michigan Certification as an Adult-Gerontology Acute Care or Primary Care NP, Adult NP, FNP or Acute NP
• Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program.
• Certification as a Nurse Practitioner recognized by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN)
• Current DEA registration required
• AHA Approved BLS
• 2 years of APP experience
• Clinical experience in hematology

PA

• Satisfactory completion of a Physician Assistant program accredited by Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) or one of its predecessor agencies, CAHEA or CAAHEP.
• Certification by the National Commission on Certification for Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
• Current license to practice as a Physician Assistant in the State of Michigan.
• State of Michigan Controlled Substance License Required
• Current DEA registration required
• AHA Approved BLS
• 2 years of APP experience
• Clinical experience in hematology

Nursing Specific Info

Employment is contingent upon successful completion of the credentialing and privileging process. Required qualifications must be met by the candidate in order to be interviewed and considered for the position. Applicants who have left the UMPNC bargaining unit must include on their resume dates of past employment including months and years of service along with effort. Positions less than 20 hours/week may be combined.

Modes of Work

Work Schedule

Hours: 40 hours/week. Shift: Day shift. Location: Rogel Cancer Center, Maize Team primary with additional assignment to the Gold or Blue Cancer Center teams if needed.

Union Affiliation

This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the Michigan Nurses Association and the U-M Professional Nurse Council union, which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours and other terms and conditions of employment.
