Job description

  • Perform applicant physical examinations in accordance with agency standards and assist with applicant medical processing at a Military Entrance Processing Station (MEPS).
  • Ensure the confidentiality of applicants is respected and that professionalism is maintained at all times in the medical department.
  • Perform applicant medical prescreening as directed by the Chief Medical Officer.
  • Conduct complete face-to-face medical histories on applicants who have completed the prescreen process and have been authorized to process.
  • Complete all computer and non-computer based medical documentation in accordance with the Command's software packages and policies.
  • Verify problems or conditions alleged by the examinees and recommend to Command physicians if a more detailed physical exam of problem areas is required.
  • Prepare electronic and non-electronic documentation used to assess the applicant’s mental and physical fitness for service in the military.
  • Perform physical inspections of previously qualified applicants to document their status for meeting standards at the time of actual enlistment on active duty and at any other time as required.
  • Perform a variety of professional direct health care duties within the field of general medicine.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position has been designated as non-sensitive and requires a personnel security investigation.
  • All Health Care Providers must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) training and certification that is sponsored or endorsed by the American Heart Association (AHA).
  • Applicants must be able to fulfill credentialing requirements and obtain and maintain appropriate/relevant clinical privileges.
  • Successful completion of applicable Military Health System (MHS) GENESIS Training is required in order to access the MHS GENESIS System within 30 days of on-boarding and/or as required.
  • Occasional shift work (before 0600 or after 1800 hours) may be required.
  • Occasionally may be required to work Saturdays.
  • This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) subject to applicant testing and random drug testing.

Basic Requirements For Advanced Practice Nurse (Nurse Practitioner)

Education: A graduate or higher level degree in nursing from an accredited educational program in the area of expertise or specialty indicated by the position. (Areas of specialties for positions include, but are not limited to, Acute Care, Anesthesia, Community Health, Family, Geriatric, Home Health, Midwifery, Neonatal, Oncology, Pediatric, Psychiatric, Allergy and Immunology, Women's Health, Cardiovascular, Dermatology, OccupationalHealth, Orthopedic, Respiratory, or other specialties identified for the position.) Foreign Degree: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools. (Note: You must attach a copy of your Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools certification.)

Licensure: Applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination and possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. Additional Licensure Requirement: Applicants must possess licensure or registration by a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States in the clinical specialty required by the position. Professional Nursing Experience: One or more full years of professional nursing experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service which includes: Providing and/or coordinating patient care; Conducting screening examinations; Ordering and/or reviewing diagnostic tests to treat health conditions; Maintaining patient medical records. This definition of professional nursing experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12).
