Job summary

US Military Treatment Facilities under the Defense Health Agency (DHA) seeks an Advanced Practice Nurse (Nurse Midwife) to provide comprehensive obstetric, gynecologic, and neonatal care at Naval Hospital Camp Pendleton, CA.

Qualified candidates must hold a Nurse Midwife degree (MSN/CNM) and an active nursing license, with professional experience in obstetrics and postpartum care. Direct hire with potential incentives may be authorized.

• One or more full years of professional nursing experience including obstetric/gynecologic and neonatal patient care.
• Experience performing physical exams and ordering laboratory tests.
• Provision of postpartum care and patient/staff education.

About the Position:

This position is located at Naval Hospital, Directorate of Surgery, OB/GYN, Camp Pendleton, CA.

• Advance in Hire MAY be authorized. This is available for those candidates who are new to Federal service.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Basic Requirement for Advanced Practice Nurse (Nurse Midwife)

Degree: A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required.

This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.

AND

Degree for Advanced Practice Registered Nurse Positions: A graduate or higher level degree in nursing from an accredited educational program in Midwifery.

OR

Degree from Foreign Nursing School: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools.

AND

Licensure: Applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination and possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. In addition, applicants must possess licensure or registration by a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States in Midwifery.

In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must meet the qualification requirements listed below:

Professional Nursing Experience: One or more full years of professional experience which includes performing physical exams on obstetric, gynecologic and/or neonatal patients, performing or ordering laboratory tests, providing postpartum care, and educating patients or staff. This definition of professional nursing experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11)
