US Bureau of Prisons/Federal Prison System is seeking Corrections healthcare professionals with nursing expertise to ensure a humane, secure environment and public safety by preparing individuals for successful reentry into our communities. Responsibilities

  • Conduct medical examinations.
  • Create medical differential diagnoses and treatment plans based on data and tests.
  • Interpret complex medical evaluations and disease processes.
  • Prescribe medical treatments.
  • Evaluate employees with medical conditions for role-specific physical requirements.
  • Communicate with Agency staff regarding medical aspects of legal cases.

Basic Requirements:

Education: A graduate or higher-level degree in nursing from an accredited educational program in the area of expertise or specialty indicated by the position. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, http://home.coa.us.com/Pages/default.aspxCouncil on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.

NOTE: ALL applicants MUST upload legible transcripts as verification of educational requirement. Degree from Foreign Nursing School:

Official certification from the Commission on Graduates on Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools.

Licensure:

Applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination and applicants applying for Advance Practice Nurse positions must be licensed or registered by a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States in the clinical specialty required by the position.

In addition to the Basic Requirements:
Experience:

Applicants must have at least one or more full years of Advance Practice Nurse experience that is equivalent to the next lower grade level.

Some examples of qualifying experience are:

  • Experience in conducting medical exams.
  • Experience in creating a medical differential diagnosis and treatment plans based on analysis of test data, laboratory data and radiological studies while considering the symptomatology of the individual.
  • Experience in interpreting multifaceted independent medical evaluation involving complex disease processes.
  • Experience in prescribing medical treatments.
  • Experience in evaluating employees with medical conditions in positions that require occupationally specific physical requirements.
  • Experience in communicating with Agency staff with regard to medical aspects of a legal case.

If applicable, credit will be given for paid and unpaid experience. To receive proper credit, you must show the actual time (such as the number of hours worked per week) spent in activities.
