Job summary

RWJBarnabas Health is seeking an Advanced Practice Nurse to work with a collaborating Psychiatrist providing care for patients with serious mental illness. The role spans psychiatric in-patient and outpatient settings at Somerset.

The APN will lead nursing activities, conduct evaluations and provide therapies, education, and monitoring of medications, aligned with leadership and research components of the department. Per diem, day shifts, based in New Jersey.

Responsibilities

• Conduct psychiatric evaluations, health assessments and monitor medication side effects
• Psychosocial therapies, medication education/counseling and treatment planning for clients and families
• Prescribe medications required to maintain client stabilization
• Serve as nursing leader, consultant, researcher, educator and direct care provider
• APN within Nursing Leadership provides a visible clinical presence to the health care team
• As Consultant, facilitate problem solving with individuals, families, groups and communities
• As Educator, promote learning by clients, staff and students
• As Researcher, promote scientific inquiry in clinical practice and use findings to improve nursing practice
• As Practitioner, model excellence in practice through direct care to selected patients or groups
• APN takes responsibility for own professional development

Job Overview

The Advanced Practice Nurse APN will work with a collaborating Psychiatrist to provide care for patients identified as having serious and persistent mental illness.

The practice settings include the psychiatric in-patient units and outpatient areas of Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset.

The Advanced Practice Nurse possesses expertise in the management of complex responses of individuals, families and communities to actual or potential health problems.
