Overview

Advanced Practice Educator - Inpatient Palliative

The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) Educator is responsible for providing personalized education by designing, developing, implementing and evaluating classroom and clinical instruction to support the orientation, ongoing educational and professional development needs of Advanced Practice Providers including coordination of the Advanced Practice Provider Fellowship Program. The APP Educator maintains collaborative relationships with clinicians, departments/units, serves as an educational consultant and resource, and contributes to the development and achievement of goals for Medical Education and Staff Development.

Position Summary

The Advanced Practice Provider Educator is responsible to assess, plan, organize, develop, implement and evaluate education programs and learning activities designed to assist Advanced Practice Providers to acquire knowledge and skills to meet job requirements and regulatory standards. The APP Educator demonstrates expertise in staff education, advanced practice, care delivery and evidence-based practice. The APP Educator collaborates effectively with physicians, nursing and other disciplines to meet organizational and team expectations and to assure that staff can perform safely and independently for their assigned role functions.

  • Responsibilities include: staff orientation, class development, instructor/faculty for courses, new product and equipment in-service, unit based in-service, educational needs assessment and ongoing competency of staff, and coordination of the APP fellowship program.
  • The APP Educator incorporates current evidence based knowledge and skill in adult learning principles and clinical, educational, and professional standards of the practice of medicine.
  • The APP Educator collaborates with all members of the health care team and serves as a role model and resource for patient care staff within the unit/department/institution and community.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Current PA license through the Ohio State Medical Board or APRN license (CNP or CNS) through the Ohio Board of Nursing.
  • Graduate of a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner program that qualifies the graduate to sit for the NCCPA certification exam or the certification examination of a national certifying organization recognized by the Ohio Board of Nursing.
  • Master’s degree in Nursing and/or DNP or Master’s degree in PA Science (MPAS)
  • At least two (2) years experience as an APP
  • Active Credentials to practice at OSUWMC
