Job summary

Carson Tahoe Health in Carson City, NV is seeking an Advanced Practice Clinician (APN/PA) to provide patient care in collaboration with physicians. The APC leads within the clinic team, navigates patients through the healthcare system, and acts as a clinical leader in the outpatient setting.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Takes medical histories and performs physical examinations, using diagnostic techniques.
• Evaluates signs and medical history to assess patient condition and documents findings for physician review.
• Orders laboratory and radiology tests, prescribes medications, and discusses treatment options.
• Performs minor surgical procedures such as incision and drainage of superficial abscesses.
• Analyzes test results and provides follow-up treatments.
• Initiates referrals to other physicians, clinics and hospitals per procedures.
• Ensures all documentation and prescriptions go through the EHR.
• Completes chart documentation within two business days of service.
• Responds to patient portal messages within two business days, when applicable.
• Attends meetings during non-patient hours; covers in-basket responsibilities when on leave.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Required
  • Graduate from accredited school as approved by the Nevada State Board of Nursing for Advanced Practitioner of Nursing (APRN) or Physician Assistant (PA) program accredited by Accreditation Review Commission on Education for Physician Assistants (ARC-PA).
  • American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) recognized board certification or National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) certification.
  • Active and unrestricted Advanced Practitioner of Nursing (APN) or Physician Assistant (PA) licensure in the State of Nevada.
  • Possess a DEA licensure and Nevada controlled substance license.
  • Medical Staff privileges at Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center.
• Preferred
  • Previous professional experience as an APRN or a PA.
  • Clinic experience.

Essential Functions

• Takes medical histories and performs physical examinations, utilizing diagnostic techniques.
• Evaluates physical signs, symptoms and medical history to assess patient’s physical condition. Documents patient history and physical examination information clearly and concisely for physician review.
• Orders appropriate laboratory and radiology tests, prescribes pharmaceuticals, and provides treatment options to patients using best judgement of medical decision-making.
• Performs minor surgical procedures such as incising and draining superficial abscesses and removal of foreign bodies.
• Analyze the results of ordered tests and provide treatments for follow-up care as needed.
• Initiates and facilitates patient referrals to other physicians, clinics and health care facilities, using clinic/ hospital procedures and completes appropriate paperwork.
• Ensures all medical documentation, orders and prescriptions must go through the electronic health record (EHR).
• Complete documentation and sign off on patient charts within two business days of the time of service.
• Respond to patient portal messages within two business days, if applicable to the department.
• Participation in meetings during non-patient contact hours as requested by administration.
• Responsible for finding coverage for working personal in-basket in the EHR when on leave, if applicable to the department.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
