Overview

Salud Para La Gente (Salud) provides high‑quality, comprehensive, and cost‑effective primary care services to underserved low‑income communities in the Monterey Bay area, including Santa Cruz County and Monterey Counties. Founded in 1978, Salud has grown from a free clinic to a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) and now operates 11 clinic sites with over 500 employees. Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the Director of Advanced Practice Clinicians, the Advanced Practice Clinician provides basic medical care to clients in accordance with established protocols. Care includes diagnosing, treating, and providing preventive medical services to primarily low‑income Spanish‑speaking farmworkers and their families. Adult, pediatric, and prenatal care and chronic illness services are also provided. Incumbents may be assigned to Family Practice, Women’s Health Services, or Pediatrics.

Direct Patient Care
  • Develop and manage a panel of patients to provide comprehensive health care in an attentive and conscientious manner.
  • Perform direct patient care, including history taking, physical examination, lab and radiology ordering and interpretation, prescription of medications, immunizations, and lifestyle modifications using established medical guidelines.
  • Perform procedures per documented training and clinical privileges.
  • Collaborate with supporting services at Salud to provide holistic care to patients, including Community Health Services, Pediatrics, OB, Behavioral Health, Dental, etc.
  • Refer secondary conditions to specialists when appropriate.
  • Institute emergency measures in life‑threatening situations.
  • Record all medical encounters in a timely and complete manner in the electronic health record.
  • Work with scheduling and management staff to ensure provider productivity standards.
  • Collaborate and/or consult with the supervising physician per licensing requirements.
Professional Conduct
  • Adhere to clinic communication guidelines and expectations with internal and external customers.
  • Communicate respectfully and effectively with people of different racial, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds and lifestyles.
  • Demonstrate professional and productive collaboration with the healthcare team.
  • Assist with recruitment of physicians/advanced practice clinicians as needed.
  • Support learners (e.g., students, residents) when asked.
  • Form liaisons with appropriate professional societies, educational institutions, and community organizations to enhance clinic services.
  • Adhere to departmental policies, procedures, and objectives, ongoing quality improvement efforts, and safety, environmental, and infection control standards.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with all federal and state patient confidentiality laws.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Valid California Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner license.
  • Maintain an updated CPR certificate, valid California driver’s license, and valid DEA license; submit copies of renewed licenses and certificates to Human Resources.
  • Board Certified or Board Qualified in Family Medicine or Adult Gerontology is preferred.
Desirable Qualifications
  • Fluent Spanish/English communication.
  • Bi‑cultural Spanish/English experience.
Salary and Benefits

Salary: $153,415.27 – $186,477.20 per year.

Benefits: available to all regular Salud employees working 24+ hours per week; part‑time employees may receive benefits on a pro‑rated basis.
