Job summary

1X is hiring a Chemical Engineer/Materials Scientist to lead the development of advanced polymer coating materials for load-bearing robot components in a fast-paced, research-to-production environment.

You will design experiments, characterize coatings, and work with multidisciplinary teams to ensure durability, safety, and manufacturability of future 1X robots in a California-based setting.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Polymer Chemistry, or related field.
• Minimum 3 years developing advanced polymer coating materials and strong material characterization skills (DMA, DSC, TGA, FTIR).
• Experience with polymer synthesis, polyurethane or related coatings.
• Ability to design DOE experiments and analyze data to optimize material performance.
• Excellent lab practices, safety, documentation and cross-disciplinary communication.

Responsibilities

• Lead R&D on polymer coating materials for load-bearing composites.
• Design experiments, characterize materials, and connect coating chemistry to performance.
• Collaborate with engineering teams to integrate new materials into production-ready robots.
• Develop structure–property–process–performance models and investigate failures.
