Job summary

UT Health San Antonio is seeking a Medical Assistant for an outpatient care site in San Antonio, TX. Under limited supervision, you will take vital signs, injections, simple tests, collect specimens, sterilize equipment, maintain exam rooms and support documentation in the EMR.

You may handle admin tasks per clinic policy and assist in the call center as needed. Qualified candidates have at least five years of directly-related Medical Assistant experience, knowledge of EPIC, and the ability to

Qualifications

• Participates as an integral part of the interdisciplinary healthcare team.
• Meets all training and competency requirements.

Responsibilities

• Intakes patients by obtaining vital signs and weight.
• Obtains history, chief complaint, medications, allergies and documents in the EMR.
• Reports pertinent findings to Physicians.
• Manages patient appointments according to the Physician's schedules and protocols.
• Answers messages from patients by clinic policy.
• Handle all medication refills or requests per clinic policy.
• Prepares charts for next scheduled clinic and provides test results and records to the physician.
• Communicate all necessary patient information to the physician in a timely manner.
• Handles external and internal calls and assists in department call center.
• Provides in-service training and precepts Medical Assistants.
• Performs Point of Care Testing (POCT) and reports to RN/Provider.
• Performs all other duties as assigned.
