Serco Inc. is seeking an Advanced Marine Welder to support U.S. Navy ships and C5ISR installations in Norfolk, Virginia.

You will fabricate and assemble electromechanical and electronic assemblies, review blueprints, and maintain safety standards in a dynamic shipyard environment. The role requires at least 5 years of shipboard welding, U.S. citizenship, ability to obtain DoD Secret clearance, and readiness to travel up to 10%.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of shipboard welding experience.
  • Ability to obtain/maintain DoD Secret security clearance.
  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Ability to pass pre-employment weld tests.
  • Must pass background check and drug screening.
  • Respirator qualified and PPE compliance.
  • Willingness to travel up to 10%.
  • Familiarity with NAVSEA electrical repair, fabrication procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Assemble metal components or repair metal using heavy machinery.
  • Review blueprints and cut metal to shape.
  • Smooth metal to remove creases.
  • Climb shipyard stairs and ladders; lay out cable runs under decking; lift up to 50 pounds; carry/push/pull up to 40 pounds for much of shift.
  • May train personnel on machinery and test equipment.
  • Ensure safety and compliance on U.S. Naval ships and military installations.

Serco is hiring an Advanced Marine Welder to be part of a dynamic team supporting our US. Navy Ships with equipment, and C5ISR system installations located in the beautiful surroundings in Norfolk, Virginia.

Serco supports our US Naval Ships with successful and safe work by providing cabling, equipment, and C5ISR system installations for our Military. You will join an amazing team to fabricate, and assemble various electromechanical and electronic assemblies by applying appropriate safety techniques.

You will also play a critical role in ensuring that successful and safe work is performed on-board U.S. Naval Ships and our Military installations, which is vital to our Mission to protect and serve our Military.

In this role, you will:
  • Assemble pieces of metal together or repair damage in metal components using heavy machinery that emits high heat, melting the metal into shape
  • Review blueprints
  • Cut metal into the appropriate shape
  • Smooth metal to remove creases
  • Climb shipyard dry dock stairs/ladders, work in kneeling position for layout of cable runs under false decking, lift 50 pounds with 80% of work requiring carrying, pushing, and/or pulling up to 40 pounds for majority of shift while being in a standing, crouching, or walking position
  • May train personnel on machinery tools and test equipment
To be successful in this role, you will have:
  • The ability to obtain/maintain DoD Secret security clearance
  • U.S Citizenship Required
  • A High School Diploma/GED
  • A minimum of 5 years shipboard welding experience
  • The ability to obtain gain access to shipyards (NAVSTA & DBIDS), undergo a background investigation and pass a drug screening
  • Complete successful qualification in the following Serco Welding Procedures within 30 days of starting with Serco for continued employment with Serco: Serco-001 (GMAW, Aluminum – 4 position), Serco-002 (SMAW, HY100-4 position), Serco-003 (GMAW, Aluminum – 4 position), Serco-007 (SMAW, C/S to S/S – 4 position), and Serco-012 (SMAW, S/S to S/S – 4 position)
  • Your own tools of the trade and able to pass pre-certification company weld test
  • Respirator qualified and wear proper PPE throughout their work shift
  • Familiarity with NAVSEA, standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the field of electrical repair, fabrication, and installation
  • Have attention to safety, which is critical
  • Ability to travel up to 10%
Additional desired experience and skills:
  • A DoD Secret Clearance
  • An OSHA 10 certification
  • Shipboard experience

Salary range: The hourly amount for this position can be found at the top of this posting.
