Amazon Robotics in Massachusetts seeks a Sr. Manufacturing Engineer to lead advanced CAD modeling and 2D drafting efforts for complex robotic systems.

You will drive producibility, GD&T, and DFMEA across a global supply chain, guiding ECOs and supplier qualifications. As a senior member of the Advanced Manufacturing Engineering team, you’ll mentor engineers, analyze root causes with structured methods, and push design improvements to scale production.

Responsibilities

• Review external production processes; identify risk, and mitigate using 2D drafting deliverables to define supplier requirements.
• Qualify production processes based on dimensional data, control plans, and process capability (Cpk) requirements.
• Drive PFMEA and DFMEA reviews referencing model geometry and drawing specifications.
• Resolve technical problems across mechanical and electrical commodities.
• Guide MRAs for NPI programs through production ramp.
• Approve ECOs across commodities, assessing manufacturing, supply chain, and cost impacts.
• Analyze production, supplier, and field failures for root cause using 8D, 5-Why, Fishbone.
• Mentor team on producibility, drafting standards, and modeling techniques.
• Propose design changes to enhance sustainability and scalability with updated models and drawings.

This role will report to the Head of Advanced Manufacturing Engineering. You will be responsible for applying advanced modeling and drafting skills alongside DfX principles to influence product designs and transition a wide range of self governed robotic solutions from design to production. You will create and interpret complex 3D models and 2D production drawings, work cross-functionally to develop suppliers, manage product lifecycle changes, oversee manufacturing readiness assessments, and drive technical root cause for supplier defects. The successful candidate will combine expert-level CAD proficiency with broad manufacturing engineering knowledge, and be willing to "roll up sleeves and do what needs to get done" to consistently deliver results.

Key job responsibilities

• Evaluate production, supplier, and field failures for root cause analysis and resolution using 8D, 5‑Why, and Fishbone methodologies.
• Mentor team members and design engineers on producibility best practices, drafting standards, and modeling techniques.
• Propose design changes that will enhance product sustainability and scalability, producing updated models and drawings to support implementation.
• Shepherd Statistical Process Control (SPC) implementation at suppliers; conduct Gauge R&R and process capability studies.
• Up to 30% travel required.

A day in the life

As a Manufacturing Engineer on the Advanced Manufacturing Engineering team, you'll start your day in CAD — reviewing 3D models for manufacturability concerns and redlining 2D drawings to refine GD&T callouts before releasing to suppliers. Mid‑morning, you might join a design review with hardware engineers, using your modeling expertise to flag tolerance stack‑up risks, recommend geometry changes, or drive cost‑out through design simplification. After lunch, you could be generating production‑intent drawings for a new tooling package, guiding a PFMEA session with a key supplier, or analyzing SPC data to qualify a new production tool. You'll collaborate daily with cross‑functional stakeholders across Hardware Engineering, Supply Chain, Quality, and Program Management, and you'll see the direct impact of your modeling and drafting skills as designs move from prototype to high‑volume global production.

About the team

Basic Qualifications

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign‑on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs).
