Job summary

BayCare Health System seeks an experienced inpatient coder to analyze multi-day, multi-specialty documentation and assign ICD-10-CM/PCS codes. You will work with physicians and the Clinical Documentation Specialist Team to ensure accurate MS-DRG assignments and PSI/HAC reviews.

Mentoring junior coders and collaborating with Quality and Medical Staff are key aspects of this role. A strong Health IT background, CCS or RHIT certification, and multiple inpatient coding years are required.

Qualifications

• 5 years of Acute Care experience.
• 3 years of inpatient coding experience.
• HS or GED plus an associates degree.
• CCS or RHIT certifications.
• Health Information Technology background.

Responsibilities

• Analyzes multi-day, multi-specialty inpatient documentation to assign ICD-10-CM/ICD-10-PCS codes.
• Assigns MS-DRG and reviews with Patient Safety and Hospital-Acquired Conditions guidance.
• Mentors and trains Coder I/II/III and clinical practice students.
• Coordinates with Clinical Documentation Specialist Team and Quality Department for accurate coding.

Summary

Analyzes the multi day, multi-specialty complex documentation for inpatient encounters to assign integrated diagnosis and procedural code using ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS coding systems. Works in conjunction with the medical staff consensus for accurate assignment of intricate diagnoses such as malnutrition and sepsis. Formulates physician queries and monitors bill hold reports. Serves as a liaison to Clinical Documentation Specialist Team and Quality Department for ICD-10 inpatient encounters for accurate code and Medicare Severity Diagnosis Related Group (MSDRG) assignments as well as Patient Safety Indicator (PSI)/Hospital-Acquired Condition (HAC) reviews. Strong utilization of anatomy, pathophysiology, and pharmacology knowledge for accurate code assignments. Assist Manager/Director with mentoring/training of Coder I, Coder II and Coder III team members and clinical practice students from various colleges. Performs other duties as assigned.
