Job summary

Amcor is seeking a Packaging Product Development Engineer to lead design, testing and analysis for major projects within the Beverage Product Development team. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure products meet high standards of quality, reliability, and functionality, while managing communications with customers and internal stakeholders.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field required.
  • 4–6 years of experience in packaging product development and managing multiple high-priority projects.
  • Knowledge of injection molding/stretch blow molding machinery and PET.
  • Experience with polymer science packaging development desirable.
  • Knowledge of material additives for packaging.
  • Experience in statistical analysis and process control.

Responsibilities

  • Define project development strategy and report feasibility/risks on moderately complex to complex projects.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to determine cost, platform and resource requirements to bring products to market on time.
  • Work autonomously on moderately complex to complex projects.
  • Establish performance specifications and tolerances for new products considering filling/handling conditions.
  • Document project progress in PLM system.
  • Create and track project R&D timelines and budgets.
  • Coordinate design reviews with engineers, customers, designers and vendors.
  • Order prototype tooling and change parts for new product development.
  • Direct process lab activities and ensure tooling, materials, and sampling plans are aligned.
  • Direct quality lab activities and determine test protocols for production environments.
  • Coordinate corrective action plans including design reviews and process improvements.
  • Assist manufacturing with start-up and validation of new products.
  • Act as lead technical liaison across account assignments.

Job Description
Position Overview:

Plans, coordinates and performs container and preform design, testing and/or analysis work for a complete project of broad scope or for a significant portion of a sub-system of a major and diverse project. Operates in a team environment and may act as lead person, providing technical leadership and design solutions. May assign, coordinate and review portions of the work of other engineers and support personnel. Provides technical consultation and a knowledge base. Recognized as an expert across a product line and play a vital role in driving Amcor’s sustainability initiatives through product development. As a member of our Beverage Product Development team, you will collaborate with cross‑functional teams to ensure that our products meet the highest standards of quality, reliability, and functionality. In addition, you will manage communications and report outs with both customers and internal stakeholders and will also assist in improving Amcor development processes and standards.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties:
  • Responsible for defining project development strategy and reporting feasibility and risks on moderately complex to complex projects.
  • Collaborates with cross functional team members to determine cost, platform and resource requirements to bring products to market on time, correct the first time, and within budget.
  • Works autonomously on moderately complex to complex projects.
  • Establish performance specifications and tolerances for new products taking into account filling and handling conditions beyond defined customer specifications.
  • Document project progress utilizing PLM system.
  • Create and track project R&D timelines.
  • Responsible for creating and maintaining project budgets.
  • Coordinate design reviews with other project engineers, customers, designers and vendors.
  • Publish design work requests and sponsor innovative solutions.
  • Specify technical and operational requirements and order prototype tooling and change parts for new product development.
  • Direct process lab activities; coordinate with lab technicians, work to acquire change parts, materials, tooling, and support injection/blow to facilitate the manufacture of unit containers and publish process lab work requests and related sampling plans and results.
  • Direct quality lab activities; establishing product acceptance criteria, determine test protocols and test conditions, access process capability and specification compliance for a production environment.
  • Coordinate corrective action plans, including design reviews, process improvements and quality systems.
  • Assist manufacturing facilities with start‑up and validation of new products.
  • Act as the lead technical liaison across various account assignments.
Qualifications:
  • Education: Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related field.
  • 4 to 6 years of experience in packaging product development and experience managing multiple, simultaneous high priority projects.
  • Knowledge of injection molding and/or stretch blow molding machinery and process with PET plastics.
  • Experience in Polymer Science Packaging Development is desirable.
  • Knowledge of property enhancing material additives (not limited to but including barrier & U.V protection) for various packaging requirements.
  • Experience in statistical analysis and process control and stability.
  • Computer skills including Microsoft Project, Excel, Word, Access and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to manage complex projects from conceptualization through commercialization.
  • Travel 25%; Concentrated in Spring & Fall.
