About

The Navys Advanced Electronics / Computer Field (AECF) offers extensive training in electronics, computer systems, radar, communications, and weapons fire control systems, including the Navys advanced missile systems and Aegis radar. These technicians are essential to the ships Combat Systems department, ensuring readiness for combat operations across the fleet.

Responsibilities
  • Maintain and repair radar, communication, and navigation equipment.
  • Operate, maintain, and repair fire control radars, mainframe computers, large screen displays, LANs, weapon control consoles, and automatic gun systems.
  • Troubleshoot and repair electro-mechanical systems used in weapons systems.
  • Support combat systems readiness aboard aircraft carriers, Aegis cruisers, and other surface ships.
Work Environment

ETs and FCs serve on fleet units worldwide and at shore-based repair facilities. Expect assignments aboard ships, at remote stations, and in technical repair shops. Work is highly technical, requiring precision and teamwork.

Training & Advancement
  • Apprentice Technical Training Great Lakes, IL (11 weeks)
  • FC Strand Great Lakes, IL (16 weeks)
  • ET Strand Great Lakes, IL (22 weeks)

Training covers electronics theory, radar systems, communications suites, missile and gun system ballistics, troubleshooting, and fiber optics. After A School, technicians may attend advanced C Schools. College credits are often available for Navy training.
