CHRISTUS Health in Santa Fe, NM is hiring a Nursing Assistant for inpatient acute care. You will remove saline locks and catheters, perform glucometry, apply oximetry, and document vital signs and patient data under nurse direction.

The role requires a High School Diploma or GED, 6 months in a healthcare setting, and current BLS and CNA certifications. Work schedule is 7AM–7PM, full time, on site.

Qualifications

  • Computer skills required for accurate reflection in documentation of patient care given.

Responsibilities

  • Meet expectations of CHRISTUS Health competencies as leader of self / others.
  • Report changes in patient status to nurse in a timely fashion.
  • Accurately document vital signs and intake/output.
  • Provide personal care assistance (bathing, dressing, feeding, toileting, transferring) and document interventions.
  • Turn and reposition patients every two hours and use protective devices when needed.
  • Maintain patient records and charts with accurate care documentation.
  • Ensure patient safety and respond to emergencies.
  • Remove saline lock and indwelling urinary catheter under nurse supervision.
  • Apply oximetry and perform bedside glucometry under nurse direction.
  • Assist with monitoring restraints and training of new staff.

Summary:

TheACNAis responsible forcompetent care of patients in the Inpatient acute care setting.Removessaline lock and indwelling urinary catheter under the direction of the nurse(excludespatients with acute urinary retention, bladder outlet obstruction, urologyconsultor has had a urological,gynecologicalor perineal procedure/surgery performed. Performs bedsideglucometryand application of oximetry. The ACNAis a vitalmemberof theIP Acute Care Teamand acts as a mentor and preceptor tonew staff.

Responsibilities:
  • Meets expectations of the applicable OneCHRISTUS Competencies: Leader of Self, Leader of Others, or Leader of Leaders.
  • Reports pertinent information such as changes in a patient’s physical or mental status to the nurse ina timelyfashion.
  • Accurately obtains (using manual or electronic devices) and documents patient vital signs including temperature, blood pressure, respirations, & pulse.
  • Accurately obtains and documents fluid intake and output values andpatient’sweight.
  • Provides personal careassistancetopatients, including bathing, dressing, oral hygiene, feeding, toileting, transferring, and ambulating usingappropriate assistivedevices when needed and documents intervention.
  • Ensures thatappropriate patientsare turned and re-positioned at least every two hours;applies protective devices to ensure comfort and prevent skin breakdown and documents intervention.
  • Maintains patient records and charts to ensurean accuraterecord of the care the patientreceived, completes property sheets on admitted or transferred patients.
  • Ensures the safety of all patients; has safety devices in use whenneeded and preventspatientfrom injury at all times.
  • Responds appropriately and according toinstructionduring emergency situations.
  • Demonstrates sensitivity to patient comfort, privacy and confidentiality and consistently adheres to HIPAA guidelines.
  • Answers call lights ina timelyfashion.
  • Follows universal precautions/infection control standards to prevent the spread of disease or infection anddisposesof infectious waste appropriately.
  • Has basic knowledge of, and adheres to, patient safety goals asappropriate.
  • Carries out procedures according to hospital standards,policiesand procedures.
  • Maintains a comfortable, clean, and uncluttered environment both in the patient’s room and on the unit.
  • Anticipates and coordinates workload toassurethat routines and supplies aremaintainedto expedite patient care.
  • Collects sputum,urineand stool specimens according to hospital policy.
  • Assistsin the provision of post-mortem care according to hospital standards.
  • Assistswithappropriate monitoringof restraints under the supervision of the nurse.
  • Assistswith orientation and training ofnew staff.
  • Attendseducational in-services and staff meetings on a regular basis.
  • Removes saline lock and indwelling urinary catheter under the direction of the nurse.
  • Applies oximetryunder the direction of the nurse.
  • Performsglucometryunder the direction of the nurse.
Job Requirements:
Education/Skills
  • High School Diploma or GED required, or
  • In lieu of a High School Diploma or GED, two (2) years of relevant work experience above the minimum qualification
  • Must have critical thinking skills andhavethe ability toprioritize quickly
  • Must be able to pass skills competency checklist asrequiredfor skill advancement
  • Must have excellent communication skills
  • Computer skillsrequiredforaccuratereflectionin documentation of patient care given.
Experience
  • Sixmonths in a healthcare-related field required
Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications
  • Current BLS issued through American Heart Associationrequired.
  • Current Certification as a Nursing Assistantrequired.
  • Current CPI trainingpreferred.

In accordance with the CHRISTUS Health License, Certification and Registration Verification Policy, all Associates are required to obtain the required certifications for their respective positions within the designated time frame.
