Job summary

Duke University Hospital in Durham, NC is seeking a Cardiac Sonographer to join our large echo lab. You will perform advanced cardiovascular imaging across ambulatory and inpatient settings, contributing to diagnosis and treatment of complex heart conditions.

You will gain hands-on experience with transplant patients, LVADs, ECMO, TAVR, TEER, and total artificial hearts while learning from nationally recognized experts. A structured onboarding and three-tiered career ladder support growth.

Qualifications

• Graduate or completion of program that meets eligibility requirements for registry/certification.
• Level I: New graduates welcome (must obtain ARDMS or CCI certification within 12 months of hire).
• Level II: Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Cardiac Sonographer.
• Level III: Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Cardiac Sonographer.
• ARDMS or CCI certification in Adult Echocardiography (required or obtained within 12 months).
• BLS certification (required).

Responsibilities

• Perform echocardiographic procedures (2D, 3D, Doppler, TEE, Stress Echos, strain imaging) in routine and emergency settings.
• Deliver services across ambulatory clinics, inpatient floors, ICU, and procedural areas.
• Evaluate pathology following ASE, ACC, and lab guidelines.
• Analyze patient records to obtain history for tailored imaging.
• Operate and maintain ultrasound equipment; report malfunctions and perform preventive maintenance.
• Prepare preliminary reports and assist cardiologists with interpretation.
• Participate in quality improvement and reaccreditation processes.
• Educate and mentor students, nurses, fellows, and new staff; pursue ongoing professional development.
