Job summary

United States Postal Service in New Jersey seeks a Full Time Automotive Technician to diagnose and repair a wide range of vehicles at Paterson, South Hackensack, Kearny, and Edison locations. You will perform computerized diagnostics, inspect engines and emissions, complete tune-ups, and document labor and parts on work orders. Applicants must have a valid driver’s license and at least two years of unsupervised driving experience in the U.S.

driving within the U.S. or military bases may apply.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of electrical/ignition systems.
  • Knowledge of automotive fuel systems.
  • Knowledge of automotive emission control systems.
  • Knowledge of engine systems.
  • Knowledge of automotive power train systems.
  • Knowledge of automotive suspension systems.
  • Knowledge of automotive braking systems.
  • Ability to use technical reference materials and manuals.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and diagnose malfunctions in automotive components or systems.
  • Ability to use automotive test equipment.
  • Ability to use mechanical test equipment and hand tools.
  • Ability to make major and minor repairs to automotive components or systems.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose operating difficulties and perform engine and system checks.
  • Run computerized tests, interpret codes, reference manuals.
  • Conduct visual inspections, road tests, and document issues on work orders.
  • Provide guidance to mechanics on repairs and diagnostic equipment.
  • Perform preventive maintenance inspections and repairs.
  • Prepare and update vehicle records with labor, parts, and data.
  • Perform engine tune-ups and adjust systems to tolerances.
  • Troubleshoot vehicles from road calls and identify faulty parts.
  • Repair and replace major components including transmissions and brakes.
  • Follow safety practices and comply with regulations.
