Job summary

PACCAR’s Advanced Controls group is seeking an AI Systems/Technical Lead to drive AI solution development, evaluation, and deployment across engineering, manufacturing, and vehicle tech. Responsibilities

  • Lead development and implementation of AI/ML solutions to enhance engineering, V&V, and manufacturing support activities.
  • Develop AI-enabled tools, methods, and workflows to improve test automation and data analysis.
  • Integrate AI techniques into lab, HIL, and vehicle testing to improve data utilization and insight.
  • Identify opportunities to improve productivity, test cycle time, and quality with AI-driven tools.
  • Develop proof-of-concept AI solutions and transition mature implementations into reusable tools.
  • Apply structured engineering approaches to data pipelines, datasets, and models for AI analysis.
  • Quantify and communicate performance improvements and cost impacts of AI solutions.
  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams to ensure successful AI tool adoption.

Requisition Summary

This position is located within the Advanced Controls organization at the PACCAR Technical Center (PTC) and involves leading the development, evaluation, and deployment of artificial intelligence (AI) solutions for next-generation engineering, manufacturing, and vehicle technologies. Responsibilities include development of AI-driven tools, workflows, and automation solutions that enhance engineering productivity, support advanced technology evaluation, and enable data-driven decision making across PACCAR organizations. Deliverables include: proof-of-concept demonstrations, production-ready AI applications, data pipelines, and documentation to support internal adoption and scaling of AI capabilities. The individual will interface with PACCAR divisions (Kenworth, Peterbilt, DAF, Electronics, and ITD), collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams, and engage with external partners to advance AI initiatives aligned with PACCAR's technology roadmap, consistent with cross-divisional collaboration expectations described in existing roles.

Job Functions / Responsibilities
  • Lead development and implementation of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning solutions to enhance engineering, verification & validation (V&V), and manufacturing support activities
  • Develop AI-enabled tools, methods, and workflows to improve test automation, data analysis, anomaly detection, and validation efficiency across component, system, and vehicle testing environments
  • Integrate AI techniques into existing engineering and validation processes (including lab, HIL, and vehicle testing) to improve data utilization, test coverage, and insight generation
  • Identify and implement opportunities to improve engineering productivity, test cycle time, and quality through practical application of AI-driven tools and automation
  • Develop proof-of-concept AI solutions and transition mature implementations into reusable tools and workflows for broader use within PTC and applicable PACCAR divisions
  • Apply structured engineering approaches to develop and maintain data pipelines, datasets, and models supporting AI-enabled analysis of engineering and validation data
  • Quantify and communicate the performance improvements, efficiency gains, and cost impacts associated with deployed AI solutions to support internal project evaluations and prioritization
  • Support documentation and reporting of AI-driven improvements, ensuring alignment with engineering deliverables, program objectives, and value realization tracking
  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams (engineering, manufacturing support, and IT) to ensure successful integration and adoption of AI tools within existing workflows
  • Serve as a technical resource for AI applications within PTC, providing guidance and support to engineering teams adopting data-driven tools and methodologies
  • Work with internal stakeholders and external partners to evaluate emerging AI technologies and determine applicability to PACCAR engineering and validation activities
  • Communicate technical findings, tool capabilities, and implementation status to engineering teams and leadership on a regular basis
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of engineering processes by incorporating data-driven and AI-enabled approaches where appropriate
  • Maintain awareness of emerging AI technologies and engineering tools, and apply them to improve existing methodologies and processes
Qualifications

Desired Qualifications
  • Advanced degree (Master's or Ph.D.) in AI, Data Science, Computer Science, or related field
  • Experience applying AI in engineering, manufacturing, or automotive domains
  • Experience with large language models (LLMs), model context protocol (MCP), robotic process automation (RPA), and/or workflow automation tools
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms, data pipelines, and enterprise IT systems
  • Experience developing internal tools, dashboards, or AI-driven applications for business use cases
  • Experience influencing organizational adoption of new technologies
  • Experience collaborating in technical teams, including managing execution and fostering a positive working environment
  • Working knowledge of the software development lifecycle (V-cycle), including integration with requirements development, system design, and verification & validation activities
Education

Bachelor's Degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math (STEM) discipline required. Advanced Degree (Master's or Ph. D) or planned path to attainment desired.
