Advance Practice Nurse (Internal Medicine) – Madigan Army Medical Center, Joint Base Lewis-McChord, WA

Madigan Army Medical Center is a Level II Trauma Center located in the Pacific Northwest near Tacoma, Washington. It is one of four Level II Trauma Centers in the state and partners with civilian facilities to serve non‑beneficiary trauma victims. Responsibilities
  • Serve as a direct primary health care provider in the capacity of a credentialed Nurse Practitioner, providing primary care services to patients aged 18 years and older across the MADIGAN Army Medical Center.
  • Perform independent examination, diagnosis, and treatment within the scope of practice and military medical protocols. Provide comprehensive primary care and auxiliary practices in general medicine to military personnel and their families.
  • Secure health and medical histories, perform initial workup, order laboratory tests, X‑rays, and other procedures, and document encounters in electronic medical records.
  • Administer and prescribe medications, including controlled substances, per scope of practice. Perform physical examinations for a variety of clinical situations such as employment, sports, and retirement screenings.
  • Provide primary care and preventive services to healthy individuals, develop treatment plans, and participate in disease management for conditions such as hypertension, hyperlipidemia, diabetes, coronary artery disease, congestive heart failure, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
  • Collaborate with physicians and other healthcare professionals, advise patients and families on treatment and medical care, and coordinate care with other primary care members.
  • Identify and refer complex medical problems to appropriate specialists and medical management.
  • Support emergency services or crises interventions in the absence of a physician, including life‑saving procedures within scope of practice.
  • Train mid‑level students and residents, develop new techniques, and recommend approaches to improve patient health care quality.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Who May Apply: US Citizens

  • Education: Graduate or higher‑level degree from an accredited professional nursing program (Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education accredited).
  • Licensure: Current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, or U.S. territory; or in the specialty of Anesthesia or a related specialty, with a national licensure exam.
  • Experience: One or more full years of professional nursing experience at the GS‑12 level, including administration of anesthetics and monitoring of anesthesia care.
  • Foreign Degree: If from a foreign school, official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required.
  • Exemption: Current federal employee in the 0610 occupational series continuously employed since September 27, 2017 or before may be exempt from basic requirements.
