Job summary

TriStar Centennial Medical Center is seeking an Advanced Patient Care Technician to support the nursing team under RN supervision. You will perform direct and indirect patient care, monitor vital signs, assist with mobility, and help maintain a safe, clean environment.

Responsibilities include phlebotomy, telemetry monitoring, and support in specialized tasks as directed. CNA/LNA/EMT training preferred, with Basic Life Support required within 30 days of start.

Qualifications

• Basic Cardiac Life Support within 30 days of employment start date.
• Training and competency in specialized functions within scope.
• Telemetry monitoring and phlebotomy experience preferred.
• 1+ years of experience in an acute setting or as a military medic preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assists with mobility, transfers, discharges, and proper body mechanics.
• Collects specimens for diagnostic tests and ensures accurate labeling and timely transfer.
• Assists patients with activities of daily living and daily living tasks.
• Serves as Monitor/Telemetry Tech for the unit as needed.
• Engages in evidence-based practices to enhance patient experience (AIDET, Teach-Back).
• Completes training and demonstrates competency in specialized functions (phlebotomy, telemetry, wound care).

Job description

The Advanced Patient Care Technician (PCT) delivers high quality, patient-centered care by performing a variety of delegated basic patient care services related to daily living and assisting the patient care team with maintaining a clean, well-organized, and safe patient care environment. Under the supervision of the registered nurse (RN), Advanced PCT also assists the nursing staff in providing one or more specialized patient care services, in accordance with the PCT's skills/training and the needs of the Department. The Advanced PCT complies with all hospital policies/procedures and observes the State Board of Nursing rules for unlicensed personnel.

What you will do in this role:

• Participates in the implementation of nursing care plans by performing direct and indirect patient care under the supervision of the licensed nurse.
• Obtains and records initial and ongoing patient information throughout the cycle of care, including admissions data, vital signs, height and weight, blood pressure, oxygen saturation, intake and output, calorie counts, and other patient information as outlined by policy.
• Assists with mobility by regular turning and positioning, dangling, and ambulating patients. Assists with use of walkers, crutches, canes, and wheelchairs. Transfers patients to and from other units, departments, or entities. Assists with discharges. Demonstrates proper body mechanics.
• Obtains or assists in the collection of specimens for diagnostic or waived tests. Ensures accuracy of all labels and timely transfer of specimen.
• Assists patients with activities of daily living to include eating and drinking, bathing, shaving, oral care, grooming, and elimination. Changes bed linens as needed.
• Serves as Monitor/Telemetry Tech for the unit as needed.
• Engages in evidence-based best practices that enhance the patient experience, including SAFETY rounding, communication fundamentals/AIDET, Teach-Back, Narrating Care, etc.

Specialty-Specific Responsibilities

• Completes training and demonstrates competency in one or more of the specialized functions listed in this section
• Performs one or more of the following tasks under the direction of an RN: phlebotomy, telemetry monitoring, removal of indwelling catheters, removal of peripheral intravenous lines, and/or enhanced skin/wound treatment.
• Completes and adheres to enhanced Healthcare Acquired Infections training and enhanced skin/wound care training.

What qualifications will you need:

• Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
• Completion of training and demonstration of competency in one or more specialized Required functions within scope
• CNA, LNA, or EMT Training Program, or Military Medic Training Preferred.
• 1 + years of experience in an acute setting or as a military medic Preferred or equivalent combination of education and/ or experience.
• Phlebotomy Certification
• Telemetry Certification
