Job Description

Job Title: Small Parts Tech

Classification: Non-Exempt

Reports To: Small Parts Manager

Position: Small Parts Tech – assists in the construction and preparation of small parts, which may require infusion molding, waxing, cleaning, inspecting, cutting fiberglass, and maintaining molds, as well as drilling necessary holes, laminating, sanding, and buffing.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Responsible for receiving and prepping the mold for infusion, including buffing, laying pre‑cut fiberglass, and ensuring proper distribution.
  • Secure fiberglass and cut to fit the pre‑cut fiberglass to complete mold coverage.
  • Ensure molds are gel‑coated properly and ready for infusion.
  • Prepare the completed part to move on to production.
  • Remove bubbles in fiberglass after application.
  • Follow instructions of the supervisor, foreman, or lead.
  • Use small hand tools such as scissors, razors, knives, etc.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly work area.
  • Work with a team to complete daily tasks.
  • Slightly sand parts when necessary.
  • Inspect all parts to ensure they meet quality standards.
  • Perform any other duties assigned by management.
  • Comply with all OSHA and safety procedures.

Tools Used
  • Personal protective equipment – safety glasses, protective apron, and possibly a half‑mask or dust/mist respirator.
  • Hand tools – rollers, sanders, scissors, grinder, scraper, razor knife, blower.
  • Direct contact with fiberglass, resin, and gel coat.
Knowledge, Education, and Experience
  • Operate a forklift.
  • Inspect and identify defects or damage to molds.
  • Follow instructions of supervisor, foreman, or lead.
  • Wear a respirator when required.
  • Maintain and use small hand tools.
  • Understand production processes and quality control.
  • Practice active listening, reading comprehension, and effective communication.
  • Apply time management and decision‑making skills.
Physical and Work Requirements
  • Work in a non‑climate‑controlled environment with ambient temperatures that can exceed outside air temperature.
  • Bend at waist and knees; stand for extended periods.
  • Climb into and out of interior boat spaces.
  • Wear proper safety equipment as needed.
  • Lift up to 50 pounds when necessary.
  • See details at close range.
