Job summary

Brown University Health seeks an experienced registered nurse to provide and supervise peri-operative care from admission through discharge. You will manage pre- and post-operative needs in the Rhode Island Hospital PACU and operate under physician and anesthesia guidance.

The role requires RI RN licensure, BLS/ACLS/PALS certification, and experience in adult or pediatric PACU settings. Evening shifts are common with on-site work in Providence.

Qualifications

• Professional nursing knowledge to provide care under stress and manage sterile techniques.
• Strong communication with patients, physicians and hospital staff.
• Ability to assess patients across life span with cultural sensitivity.

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive peri-operative nursing care including chart review, med administration, IV starts, blood products, ECG, catheterization and other treatments.
• Initiate life-saving procedures such as CPR when required.
• Develop and adjust nursing care plans based on patient condition and physician input.
• Verify pre-op orders, medications, and ensure accurate charting and lab results.
• Assess pre-admission tests and communicate results to surgeons and anesthesiologists.
• Conduct patient interviews and pre-op screenings to prepare for surgery.
• Educate patients and families about procedures and postoperative care.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary team to address learning needs, barriers, and cultural considerations.
• Maintain records and provide guidance to junior staff and students.
• Demonstrate ongoing professional development and act as a role model.
