Position Summary

Framingham Adult ESL Plus is a part‑time, grant‑funded program that offers classes at no cost to adult learners in the MetroWest area. The program offers morning and evening classes in English as a Second Language, High School Equivalency, and Citizenship, both In‑Person and Online. The Adult ESL Substitute Instructors teach reading, writing, speaking, listening, and computer skills to students aged 17 and above who have limited English proficiency when the Adult ESL Instructor is unavailable.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Execute existing lesson plans to maintain academic integrity while motivating student participation and engagement.
Collect and assess students’ papers and assignments in line with the lesson plan.
Record attendance and gather student work to return to the regular teacher.
Teach students about a variety of classroom topics and instructional courses.
Address different learning styles of students to enhance understanding.
Demonstrate the correct use of spoken and written English.
Exhibit professional teaching practices.
Implement all relevant program protocols and procedures.
For extended assignments, develop lesson plans, create and grade tests/assignments, and attend school‑related functions as needed.

Physical Working Conditions

Must be able to move about and traverse throughout the school building.
Must often remain in a stationary position for considerable periods of time.
It is occasionally required to reach, sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
Is expected to lift at least 20 lbs (i.e., books, school supplies, etc.).
Must frequently use hands to finger, handle, or feel, and use hand strength to grasp tools.
Must be able to assist students who have physical difficulties.
Operate a computer and other office productivity machinery.
Must communicate effectively with students, parents, and staff in person, via email, and on the telephone.
Must be able to see and hear continuously to ensure student safety and provide instruction.
May be required to move quickly across even or uneven surfaces.
Must interact with students, parents, and staff and meet multiple demands.
While most of the workday is spent inside, must spend time outdoors for recess and special activities.
May be exposed to bodily fluids, disease, or pathogens.
May receive injuries from aggressive students.
May require physical interaction with students who have difficulty controlling behavior.

The performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the Framingham School Committee Policy Contract.

Terms of Employment

Covered under Framingham School Committee Contract.
This is a grant‑funded position and, as such, is dependent upon the availability of grant funds. Employees are hired for one semester with the possibility of renewal.
