Job summary

Hopkins Public Schools seeks a Beginning ESL Teacher for Adult Options in Education to support multilingual adult learners in the Hopkins community. The role emphasizes equity, inclusion, and accessible instruction delivered online via Google Meet.

The teacher will guide listening, speaking, reading, writing and grammar development, align to MN ABE standards, assess progress with CASAS/TABE, and participate in ongoing professional development.

Qualifications

• Experience teaching adult English language learners, including pre-literacy and low-level ESL.
• Strong digital literacy and ability to teach in online platforms such as Google Meet.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to supervise and work well with others.
• Ability to take initiative in problem solving.
• Excellent organizational skills.
• Ability to manage time and responsibilities.
• Demonstrated history of racial equity work and focus on increasing racial awareness.
• Bachelor Degree in Education and current Minnesota Teaching License (a district-sponsored Tier 1 License may be obtainable).
• Masters in TESOL preferred.

Responsibilities

• Teach ESL to adults covering listening, speaking, reading, writing, and grammar.
• Align instruction to MN ABE Content Standards (CCRS, ACES/TIF, NorthStar Digital Literacy).
• Analyze student needs and assess progress with CASAS/TABE assessments.
• Use appropriate techniques for individual learning styles.
• Coordinate volunteer-student assignments by determining selection of materials, supervising progress, and assessing needs and performance.
• Record-keeping for class and attendance; maintain accurate progress records.
• Participate in staff meetings, instructional collaborative time, and professional development.
• Manage classroom and learning labs to facilitate learning and retention of students.
• Maintain levels of training criteria established by State Department of Education.

Description:

• Teach English as a Second Language (ESL) to adults including listening, pronunciation/speaking, reading, writing and grammar as a part of student-centered classroom;
• Align instruction to MN ABE Content Standards (CCRS, ACES/TIF, NorthStar Digital Literacy);
• Analyze student needs and assess progress with CASAS/TABE assessments;
• Use appropriate techniques for individual learning styles;
• Coordinate volunteer-student assignments by determining selection of materials, supervising student's progress, and assessing needs and performance;
• Responsible for record keeping for class and for accurately recording attendance, student progress, etc;.
• Participate in staff meetings, instructional collaborative time, & professional development;
• Manage classroom and learning labs to facilitate learning and retention of students;
• Maintain levels of training criteria established by State Department of Education;

Minimum Qualifications:

• Experience teaching adult English language learners with expertise in pre-literacy and low level ESL
• Strong digital literacy and computer skills. Ability to teach in an on-line platform such as Google Meet.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to supervise and work well with others
• Ability to assume initiative in problem solving
• Excellent organizational skills
• Ability to manage time and responsibilities
• Demonstrated history of racial equity work and focus on increasing racial awareness

Additional Requirements:

• Must be able to stand and move about the classroom for extended periods of time.
• Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs (books, materials, equipment).

Teaching Positions:

6:00 - 9:00 PM

Tuesdays/Thursdays

4.5 hours/day including prep time

9 hours/week, 50 days/year

Hourly range $34.95-$49.06
