Job summary

Butler Community College is seeking an Adult Education Instructor to lead basic education, ESL and literacy programs at Butler Community College and surrounding outreach locations. This is a part-time, in-person role (28 hours per week) tied to a continuing long-term grant program.

The instructor will collaborate with the director and staff to deliver curricula, assess learners, and maintain records, while meeting AEFLA and KBOR requirements.

Qualifications

  • Flexibility in modifying workload and schedule to meet peak demands.
  • Competency in teaching developmental, Pre-GED, GED, technology, pre-employment, and advanced transitional skills.
  • Ability to create individual study plans based on special needs of students or individual goals.
  • Knowledge of teaching in a correctional setting preferred.
  • Previous teaching experience with adults ages 16 and over.
  • Experience with competency-based instructional methods.
  • Developmental education experience preferred.
  • Experience with individuals in a correctional setting preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver adult basic education, ESL, and literacy instruction.
  • Provide Integrated Education and Training instruction and college readiness at Butler Community College and outreach locations.
  • Teach basic technology, work readiness, and placement test preparation as needed.
  • Act as liaison between outreach location staff and Butler El Dorado staff to provide AEFLA/WIOA services.
  • Deliver curriculum, administer appropriate assessments, conduct follow-up, and maintain records.
  • May substitute for other instructors and perform routine office procedures.
  • Participate in professional development activities as required.

Job Duties

Responsible for adult basic education, ESL , and literacy instruction, Integrated Education and Training instruction, and college readiness at Butler Community College and other outreach and employer locations.Other content such as basic technology, work readiness, and placement test preparation instruction to be taught as needed. The instructor will act as the liaison between the outreach location staff and Butler of El Dorado staff to effectively and efficiently provide WIOA Title II services as required by the Adult and Family Literacy Act ( AEFLA ) and the Kansas Board of Regents ( KBOR ). This position has some flexibility with hours to be worked; however, all are in-person hours (no remote work). This position will work as a team with the director, data entry person and other instructional staff to deliver curriculum, administer appropriate assessment(s), conduct follow-up, and to maintain and update records required for effective and efficient delivery of program services. Instructor may be asked to occasionally substitute for other instructors and perform routine office procedures as needed. Program standards require the employee to actively participate in professional development activities for the Kansas Board of Regents. This is a continuing long-term grant-funded position.

Required educational background

Bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education, Elementary Education, Special Education, Criminal Justice, Social Work or related field.
