The Opportunity

The Analytical Data Science Lead serves as a senior leader of the Analytical Data Science function in Roche Product Development Data Sciences (PDD). He or she will guide the technical strategy and operational execution across multiple clinical programs or an entire therapeutic area, leading a team of highly skilled programmers and junior leaders to deliver high‑quality, regulatory‑compliant analytical outputs.

Responsibilities
  • Guide the technical strategy and operational execution across multiple clinical programs or an entire therapeutic area.
  • Lead a team of highly skilled programmers and junior leaders, ensuring quality, consistency and timeliness of analytical outputs.
  • Oversee day‑to‑day delivery and broad range of analytical outputs including exploratory analyses, application development and dynamic visualisation to generate scientific insights.
  • Oversee deliverables from cross‑functional partners such as Data Management, ensuring seamless integration into reporting pipelines.
  • Set priorities, allocate resources and standardise, automate and innovate programming operations for scalability and sustainability.
  • Represent the data science function in high‑level internal forums and global regulatory engagements, contributing to regulatory strategy.
  • Resolve complex technical and operational challenges that impact delivery quality or external perception.
  • Drive the adoption of innovative programming tools, scalable delivery models and automation approaches.
  • Manage vendor oversight and coordinate external partners to ensure high‑quality, efficient delivery.
  • Shape the broader PDD agenda through cross‑functional governance, strategic planning and enterprise‑level initiatives.
  • Manage a team of ADS programmers, allocating workload, assessing performance and planning development.
  • Build and sustain a high‑performing team by identifying skill gaps, hiring talent and fostering a culture of excellence, innovation and collaboration.
  • Guide the team through ambiguity, providing direction and support for complex projects and shifting priorities.
  • Serve as primary accountability for team performance and delivery, ensuring portfolio deliverables meet quality, compliance and timeline expectations.
Qualifications
  • Hold an advanced degree (Master’s or PhD) in Statistics, Biostatistics, Computer Science, Life Sciences or a related quantitative field.
  • Have 12+ years of experience in statistical and analytical programming within clinical development, with a demonstrated impact across multiple programmes or therapeutic areas.
  • Possess deep expertise in clinical trial data standards (CDISC SDTM and ADaM) and regulatory submission requirements.
  • Have a proven track record of leading cross‑functional data delivery for complex clinical programmes, including regulatory submissions.
  • Proficient in programming languages and tools commonly used in clinical data analysis (SAS, R, Python) and experienced in building scalable, reusable, automated solutions.
  • Have a strong understanding of global regulatory expectations and experience representing programming in interactions with health authorities.
  • Demonstrate the ability to lead large‑scale initiatives and resolve complex technical challenges with minimal guidance.
  • Have experience contributing to functional innovation, including adoption of new tools, standards or delivery models.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience leading programming strategy for global regulatory submissions, including integrated summaries (ISS/ISE).
  • Familiarity with metadata‑driven programming approaches or enterprise‑level data standardisation.
  • Proven ability to drive functional innovation through automation, process improvement or adoption of emerging tools.
  • Exposure to real‑world data or digital health integration within clinical development.
  • Participation in industry working groups, consortia or recognised contributions to advancing programming standards or practices.
Benefits
  • Salary range (Massachusetts): $152,300.00 – $282,800.00; pay determined by experience, qualification and location.
  • Potential discretionary annual bonus based on individual and company performance.
