Orphans of the Storm in Riverwoods, IL is seeking a Full-Time Adoption Counselor to join our shelter team. You will assist with animal adoptions, handle cats and dogs, and complete paperwork to support secure, compassionate adoptions.

The role emphasizes customer service, safety, and collaboration with our clinic and management. This full-time position offers opportunities to contribute to animal welfare and community outreach.

Responsibilities

• Working with both cats and dogs of various sizes, ages, and temperaments
• Assisting with adoptions, introducing animals to prospective adopters
• Completing adoption paperwork and assorted administration.
• Notating all medical and behavioral concerns in shelter tracking software.
• Transporting animals to medical facilities using company vehicles
• Ensure excellent customer service.
• Maintain high standards of cleanliness in kennels and office areas while balancing efficiency
• Ensure the health of animals by performing established care and sanitation procedures.
• Demonstrate safe and appropriate animal handling at all times.
• Provide support to the clinic by administering treatments as needed.
• Promote and model positive interpersonal communication and relationship building.
• Maintain proper opening and closing procedures for your department.
• All other duties as assigned.
