Job summary

Florida Cancer Specialists & Research Institute is seeking a Pharmacy Operations Float Pharmacy Technician for a part-time role. The position involves preparing chemotherapeutic and other agents, maintaining medication inventory, and coordinating with physicians, nursing staff, and procurement across Florida clinics.

Travel to satellite offices is required. Qualifications include a high school diploma (college degree preferred), 6+ months pharmacy experience, and active Florida PTCB/License.

Qualifications

  • Education: High school diploma required; college degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 6 months experience in pharmacy setting preferred.
  • PTCB Certification or Florida Registered as Pharmacy Technician required.
  • Medical terminology knowledge and attention to detail desirable.
  • Fluency in English and strong communication skills.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally to educational and research meetings and training sessions.
  • Valid Florida Driver’s License for travel to clinics.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare chemotherapeutic and other hazardous/nonhazardous agents with sterile technique.
  • Maintain ordering and inventory of medications and clinical supplies; liaise with physicians, nursing, pharmacy supervisor and procurement.
  • Provide accurate pharmaceutical compounding and patient care within safety guidelines.
  • Support multiple sites across Florida and travel as needed.

We are recognized by the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) with a national Clinical Trials Participation Award, FCS offers patients access to more clinical trials than any private oncology practice in Florida. Our patients have access to ground‑breaking therapies, in a community setting, and may participate in national clinical research studies of drugs and treatment protocols. In the past five years, the majority of new cancer drugs approved for use in the U.S. were studied in clinical trials with FCS participation prior to approval. Through our partnership with Sarah Cannon, we are one of the largest clinical research organizations in the United States. Often, FCS leads the nation in initiating research studies and offering ground‑breaking new therapies to patients.

Part Time Position

Position Summary: The Pharmacy Operations float pharmacy technician is responsible for performing a variety of complex technical skills and functions in the preparation of chemotherapeutic and other hazardous and nonhazardous agents. To carry out the assignments of this position, the technician must possess first-rate techniques in sterile product preparation, a thorough understanding of the principles of biological safety cabinets, and a knowledge base of antineoplastic/cytotoxic agents including the precautions needed in the handling of these products, the ability to travel throughout the state of Florida and flexibility to stay overnight if needed for multiple days. Pharmacy Technicians are expected to maintain a high degree of accurate productivity and performance while being extremely sensitive to the specific contribution of total patient care. The incumbent will be responsible for maintaining the ordering and inventory of medications, clinical supplies, and act as liaison between Physicians, Nursing, Pharmacy Supervisor and Procurement in obtaining special order medications.

Position Qualifications/Requirements
  • Education: High school diploma required; college degree preferred.
  • Previous Experience: Minimum of 6 months experience in the pharmacy field, in a clinical setting as a Pharmacy Technician is preferred. IV sterile compounding experience is preferred.
  • PTCB Certification or Florida Registered as Pharmacy Technician is required.
  • Medical terminology and attention to detail is desirable.
  • Fluency in the English language as well as strong communication skills to interact with a wide variety of personalities.
  • Must be willing to travel occasionally to educational and research meetings as well as training sessions.
  • Valid Florida Driver’s License for travel to clinics is required

Computer Skills: Proficiency in MS Office, Word, Excel, Power Point, and Outlook required.

Certifications/Licenses:

Pharmacy Technician Registration in Florida Pharmacy Technician Certification (PTCB) Valid state Driver’s License for travel to satellite offices and offsite meetings. Compliance with the company Driver Safety Operations and Motor Vehicle Records Check Policy is required.
