Job summary

Palmdale Regional Medical Center is seeking a Patient Access/Registration professional to interview patients and gather information for admission. You will enter data accurately, explain documents to patients and ensure financial arrangements are in place.

Experience in hospital registration, strong telephone and computer skills, and high school graduate or equivalent are required. Join a team focused on efficient admissions and patient service.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of two years’ experience in a hospital or related medical field.
  • Must possess knowledge of office procedures, including good telephone skills, medical terminology, typing, insurance requirements and collection practices.
  • High School graduate or equivalent required.
  • Strong written and verbal communications and organizational skills are essential.

Responsibilities

  • Interview patients, guarantors or family to obtain information for registration.
  • Enter information into computer with correct admission codes, demographics and insurance details.
  • Present admission documents for signatures and explain their purpose.
  • Ensure satisfactory financial arrangements and collect co-payments and deposits.
  • Coordinate with HMOs/carriers for authorizations as needed.
  • Scan and file documents; operate registration equipment and signature pads.
  • Maintain productivity and answer phones courteously.

Position Description

Interviews patients, guarantor or family member to obtain the necessary information required to register the patient presenting to the Hospital for treatment. Collects patient financial responsibility at time of service.

Job Duties/Responsibilities Requirements
  • Acknowledge patients presenting to the Emergency Department or for Outpatient/In-patient services in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Interviews patient/representative to obtain all necessary information to complete the registration process by hospital policy.
  • Enters information into the computer accurately, using correct admission codes, demographics, and insurance information.
  • Present admission documents to patient/representative for signatures, clearly explaining the nature of each document.
  • Ensure that satisfactory financial arrangements are made in accordance with hospital policy. Collects appropriate ER co-payments and cash deposits.
  • Contacts HMO or carriers requiring authorization on a consistent basis and at the appropriate time during the registration process.
  • Faxes IP and Observation face sheets to assigned Medical Groups/IPS and Insurance companies.
  • Scans all necessary documents into system as needed.
  • Registration on computer on wheels and usage of the signature pads on all registrations.
  • Validation of Physician orders with the following information Doctor signature, Date of Service, Patient Name, Diagnosis/symptoms and procedure before processing any patient.
  • Works in all areas of Patient Access, maintains productivity levels established by the Admitting Manager or Designated Supervisor/Lead Staff, and keeps casual conversation to a minimum during working hours. Answers phones in a courteous and professional manner.
