Job summary

The Admissions Manager at Montana State Hospital leads the admissions process, ensuring appropriate patient placement and coordinating with community referral sources. The role also supervises Admissions staff and participates as a key member of the Social Services Leadership Team.

Applicants should hold a Bachelor degree in Psychology, Social Work or related field, with minimum experience in mental health settings and supervisory roles. This is a full‑time, on‑site position in Warm Springs, MT.

• Understanding of state mental health commitment laws, court processes, and admission criteria in a psychiatric setting.
• Ability to review and apply statutes, administrative rules, and hospital policies.
• Skilled in building and maintaining collaborative relationships with referral sources, courts, law enforcement, and community providers.
• Ability to model effective communication, verbally and in writing.
• Ability to compose and provide information in the form of reports and complete clinical documentation.
• Effective interviewing and information gathering techniques.
• Excellent time management skills and ability to prioritize work.
• Ability to operate a PC and office equipment including spreadsheets, word processing, database, email, internet.

The Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services (DPHHS) has a career opportunity within the Montana State Hospital.

The Admissions Manager is an active member of the Social Services Leadership Team and is responsible for coordinating the admission of patients to Montana State Hospital. This includes ensuring appropriate placement, supervising Admissions staff, and serving as primary liaison between the hospital and community referral sources.

Minimum Qualifications (Education and Experience)

Bachelor degree in Psychology, Social Work, or directly related healthcare field required.

• 2 years experience working in a mental health psychiatric or social service support setting required.


• 2 years experience in a supervisor or manager capacity required.


• Other combinations of education and experience may be considered on a case-by-case basis.
