Job summary

Avera Health is seeking an Admissions Specialist to register patients promptly, establish accounts and medical record numbers, and verify insurance details. You will collect patient payments and communicate benefits and deposits clearly.

The role supports hospital operations with accurate data entry, coordinated scheduling, and compassionate customer service. Training is provided for internal processes and privacy compliance, with a 12-hour rotating schedule.

Qualifications

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks with accuracy and efficiency.
• Experience or familiarity with medical billing, registration, or insurance is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Register patients accurately in the system and create/verify medical record numbers.
• Collect co-pays, deductibles, and out-of-pocket expenses and explain estimates to patients.
• Verify insurance coverage, pre-certification, and/or authorization for accounts.
• Coordinate with patients, staff, providers, and external agencies to ensure smooth intake.
• Ensure HIPAA privacy practices are followed and patient information is handled confidentially.
• Assist in maintaining accurate bed assignments and registration flows in Patient Care areas.
