NRDC in Washington, DC is seeking an Administrative Coordinator to provide administrative and operations support for the Green Finance & Economic Development department, helping accelerate a sustainable, equitable financial system and mobilize public resources for climate investment.

This role requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage budgets, invoices, contracts, travel, events, and cross‑team communications within a hybrid office setting.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required; 1-3 years of related admin experience.
  • Experience with budgeting, invoicing, and contract management helpful.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills; ability to learn new systems.

Responsibilities

  • Provide administrative and logistical support to assigned teams.
  • Budgeting and accounting support, invoicing, contracts, reports, tracking spend.
  • Manage contracts, vendor setup, and filing systems.
  • Schedule meetings, draft materials, process expense reports, travel logistics.
  • Assist with event planning and coordination.
  • Support inter-department communications and external partners.
  • Support special projects identified by the Operations Manager.

Position Summary

The Administrative Coordinator will provide administrative and operations support for the Green Finance & Economic Development department whose mission is to: accelerate the shift to a sustainable, resilient, and equitable financial and economic system, and mobilize public resources and private capital for climate investment that reduces emissions and enhances livelihoods and lives.

NRDC (the Natural Resources Defense Council) works to safeguard the Earth, its people, its plants and animals, and the natural systems on which all life depends. This position would be hybrid remote in either the New York office (preferred) or DC

The position you are applying for is part of the bargaining unit represented by The Washington Baltimore News Guild (WBNG / The Newsguild-CWA Local 32035 ) .

Responsibilities

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable a ccommodations may be made to enable qualified individuals with disabilities to perform the following essential functions :

  • Provide administrative and logistical support to assigned teams, per NRDC’s administrative guidelines. This includes, but is not limited to:
  • Provide budgeting and accounting support, including processing invoices, maintaining contracts, preparing reports, and tracking spend.
  • Responsible for contract submission and facilitation of institutional processes related to contract approval and vendor set-up.
  • Manage electronic filing systems and databases related to contracts, invoices and other team files for the assigned team.
  • Provide administrative and logistical support to assigned team members, per NRDC’s administrative guidelines. This may include, but is not limited to:
  • Schedule calendar appointments and meetings.
  • Draft, edit, format, or proofread materials, correspondence or reports.
  • Create and submit expense reports on behalf of assigned team members and book travel and plan associated logistics .
  • Schedule, organize, prepare for, and follow-up on assigned meetings, including planning logistics , preparing materials, taking notes, and sending out action items.
  • Assist with event planning and production , which may require working with external parties, event scheduling, arranging catering, printing, materials preparation, and liaising with different stakeholders as needed .
  • Provide support to ensure effective communication, collaboration, and information-sharing within the department and with external institutional partners.
  • Support execution of special projects identified by the Operations Manager .

Qualifications

Minimum Education & Experience:

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • 1-3 years of relevant work experience.
  • And/or equivalent education or experience.

  • Ability to travel to NRDC U.S. based offices, approximately 5% annually
  • Demonstrated ability to perform or quickly learn new tasks, systems, and technology.

  • Strong problem‑solving skills.
  • Excellent editing, research, and data synthesis skills.

  • Strict adherence to confidentiality requirements and discretion with sensitive information
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook), in addition to ability to learn accounting and finance systems, as well as relevant NRDC specific software and platforms.
  • Proficiency with Asana or similar project management platforms preferred.

We offer competitive salaries, excellent benefits , and a supportive working environment. Salary is based on a nonprofit scale and is commensurate with skills and experience. Internal equity will be reviewed and considered to determine a final offer. For this position, the salary range is $52,200 to $58,000 .
