Job summary

Job description

Are you looking to start a career in the field of human resources? The Department of Environmental Protection's HR Office is looking for a candidate with excellent analytical and communication skills to participate in a paid, 12-month, on-the-job, training program as an Administration and Management Trainee with our agency's Talent Management section. Upon successful completion of this training year, you will be promoted to Human Resource Analyst 1. for this exciting opportunity!

As an Administration and Management Trainee in this 12-month training program, you will learn the duties of this position while gaining valuable skills and experience. Candidates who successfully complete this program will have the opportunity for promotion to Human Resource Analyst 1. This role supports consistent, well planned hiring activities that guide managers through posting, recruiting, and selecting candidates. In this role, you will perform the following duties:

  • Hiring Guidance: Provide direction to hiring managers on posting options, requisitions, and selection strategies
  • Data Evaluation: Analyze posting history and related information to shape recruitment strategies
  • Posting Preparation: Complete required forms, attach documentation, and route materials through NEOGOV
  • Candidate Coordination: Review applicant materials, manage interview steps, and support legal hiring decisions
  • Status Tracking: Update systems and reports to ensure accurate vacancy and process information
  • Interview Support: Assist managers with question development and ensure job related evaluation methods

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework:You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, standard three telework/two office days per week. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.
  • Salary:Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $46,827 (before taxes).

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
  • A bachelor's degree, including 15 credits in public administration, business administration, or a closely related field; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training that includes 15 credits in public administration, business administration, or a closely related field.
  • Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree/credit.
