Job summary

ADEL DESOTO MINBURN COMM SCHOOL DISTRICT is seeking a school cafeteria helper to assist with food preparation, serving, and cashier responsibilities. The role runs Monday through Friday, 7:00am to 2:00pm, with duties including cleaning and maintaining a sanitary kitchen and dining area.

The incumbent will follow recipes, operate a POS system, and keep accurate records while working under supervision in a fast-paced cafeteria setting.

Summary

Under immediate supervision, assists with the preparation and serving of meals; performs general duties related to food preparation, serving and cleaning. Acts as cashier and/or computer point of sale meal services system.

Hours

M-F 7:00am - 2:00 pm

Essential Job Functions

• Helps with food preparation.
• Serves food at appropriate times.
• Serves as cashier and/or point of sale system attendant.
• Cleans and washes cafeteria equipment, dishes, pans, tables and carts.
• Maintains food service facilities, equipment and utensils in a clean and sanitary condition.
• Maintains and completes required forms and records accurately, as assigned by the supervisor.
• Assists in taking inventories and record keeping.
• Performs related duties as assigned.

Qualification Guidelines

Knowledge of

• Following recipes that can include weighing and measuring of ingredients
• Safe practices of lifting and moving materials.
• Basic kitchen equipment and supplies
• The importance of practicing safe food handling, established rules pertaining to personal hygiene and dress code.
• Portion control and basic units of measure.
• Basic computer software systems

Ability To

• Follow oral and written directions.
• Safely operate food service equipment.
• Meet work schedules and time lines in a fast paced environment.
• Identify a reimbursable meal on the serving line.
• Push, carry, and lift large boxes, bags of food and food carts.
• Work in a standing position for long periods of time.
• Follow instructions as directed from lead personnel relating to safety measures, sanitation practices, personnel standards, work techniques and methods of performing duties.
• Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.
• Lift and move items weighing up to 25 pounds.
