POSITION TITLE

Adjunct Teacher, Production Design

JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY

The Adjunct Teacher, Production Design is directly supervised by the Principal and is responsible for teaching theory and practice of production design to production technology students in grades 6 through 12 at Pittsburgh CAPA. The ideal candidate is a working artist in the Pittsburgh Theater scene. Teaching topics include:

  • Script Analysis
  • Principals of Design
  • Model Making
  • Prop design and fabrication
  • Color theory/application
  • Hanging/focusing stage lights
  • Scenic paiting and rendering
  • Lighting consol programming
  • Stage management
  • Live audio and video recording
  • Production work in support of school events.

WORK MONTHS

10 Months

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  1. Prepare and teach stimulating classes in production design to students aged 13-18.
  2. Utilize differentiated instruction to assess and support all students according to their accommodations and learning styles.
  3. Ensure a culture of rigor and discipline in the classroom.
  4. Create a welcoming, healthy and safe learning environment for all students to grow and learn by settings class-based rules and boundaries that are centered on mutual respect and understanding of our core values.
  5. Maintain student attendance records.
  6. Regularly communicate with students, parents and other CAPA Production Technology faculty to share artistic progress, encourage positive behavior, and resolve behavioral and artistic issues.
  7. Other relevant duties as assigned by supervisor in support of the department's or school’s goals and objectives and the District's mission and Superintendent's Priority Goals
EDUCATION REQUIRED
  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Technical Theater, Master’s Degree, OR Bachelor’s plus 2 years of professional experience preferred.
CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE REQUIRED

Pennsylvania Department of Education Permit for Resource Specialists, required after offer

YEARS OF EXPERIENCE
  • Two years of professional experience with a focus in set design, lighting design, production, or related field.
  • Backstage crew management of live performances required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES
  • Prior teaching experiences highly preferred
  • Expertise in Microsoft Office applications and Mac-based audio software including Garage Band and QLab
  • Mac-based expertise in software such as CAD, Vectorworks, Sketchup, QLab, ETC lighting systems, LightWright, etc
  • Experience with software such as ProTools, Adobe Creative Suite, or AutoCAD
  • Additional experience in a second area of technical theater preferred.
  • Ability to build on existing program for live performance recording
  • Enthusiastic about the fundamental goal of advancing student achievement in an urban public school district.
