Job summary

OSU-OKC invites applications for an adjunct instructor to develop in students the skills of critical thinking and to help them learn the subject matter presented in class. The role focuses on overhead line work, safety, and effective teaching practices.

Required qualifications include an AS in discipline with licensure or equivalent, significant lineman experience, and a Journeyman license. The position requires strong teaching ability and proficiency with MS Office and LMS.

Qualifications

  • Associate of Applied Science in discipline and licensure plus industry experience.
  • Other combinations of education and industry experience may be substituted for degree requirement.
  • Significant, demonstrable experience in the lineman field, approved by Chair, Dean, and VPAA, with industry certifications (lineman, OSHA, CDL and other related)
  • Journeyman License in good standing.
  • Proficient in overhead electrical line climbing techniques and safety and rescue practices in a lab environment.
  • Teaching competence including lesson plan creation, content and assessment of student learning.
  • Clear, grammatically correct English communication; interaction with diverse stakeholders.
  • Proficient in MS Office and LMS usage.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain student and course records with updates on the learning management system.
  • Maintain and file current course outlines, objectives and grading procedures for all courses.
  • Exhibit innovative and adaptive instructional methods.
  • Completes all mandatory training.
  • Fulfill all requirements as noted in the Adjunct Handbook.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Education

Skills, Proficiencies, And/or Knowledge
  • Proficient in overhead electrical line climbing techniques (i.e. aerial/pole climbing, operation and use of power equipment - e.g. use of bucket trucks, cable pullers), and safety and rescue practices in a lab environment.
  • Teaching Competence – Must be able to create lesson plans, content, presentations, ancillary materials, and assignments to effectively transform information to knowledge for students; have the ability to assess student learning and progress.
  • Communication skills – Must be able to communicate verbally and in writing with clear, grammatically correct English; requires interaction with supervisors, colleagues, students, alumni, advisory committee members, and the public, using tact, discretion, and independent judgment.
  • Computer skills – Must be demonstrably proficient in Microsoft Office (MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel), as well as e-mail and internet, and learning management systems.
  • Passion for assisting customers and representing the OSU-OKC and OSU brand with positivity and professionalism.
  • Demonstrated history of ethical and professional behavior.

Working Conditions
  • Ability to work a combination of days/evenings/weekend schedules.
  • Class laboratory sessions are conducted outside.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to complete overhead electrical line climbing techniques (i.e. aerial/pole climbing, operation and use of power equipment - e.g. use of bucket trucks, cable pullers), and safety and rescue practices in a lab environment.
  • Duties require the ability to climb wood poles.
  • Duties require extended periods of sitting, talking and listening.
  • Duties require use of computers, telephones and other office equipment.
  • Requires possible lifting of up to 25 lbs. (If an object weighs more than 45 lbs., OSU-Oklahoma City requires this to be a two-person lift).
