Job summary

This temporary in-person appointment within the American Indian Studies Department supports the College of Humanities, Arts, Behavioral & Social Sciences and engages students in California Indian resistance, resurgence, and sovereignty.

The position requires a master's degree, demonstrated knowledge of tribal histories and law, and a commitment to working with California

Qualifications

• Master's degree in the area of instruction or a closely related field.
• Clear commitment to American Indian epistemology, in terms of theory, methodology, pedagogy as they pertain to the field of American Indian Studies.
• Demonstrated knowledge of sovereignty, culture, and tribal histories and federal Indian policy and law.
• Demonstrated experience in working in collaboration with California American Indian tribes, communities, organizations and/or other American Indian nations in the US.
• Compliance with California State University's Out-of-State Employment Policy; employment must be performed in California.

Responsibilities

• Teach AIS 110: Decolonizing California for Fall 2026.
• Deliver foundational overview of contemporary political, social, environmental issues from California Indian perspectives.
• Engage students in community-centered learning and discussions on sovereignty and decolonization.
