Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Philosophy or at least 18 graduate hours in Philosophy.
  • Unofficial transcripts must be attached with your online application prior to submission.
  • Community college teaching experience preferred.
  • Experience teaching Critical Thinking at a post-secondary level.
  • Experience teaching Aristotle, Kant, and Mill at a post-secondary level.
  • Online post-secondary teaching experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Instructs and guides the class in an efficient and effective manner.
  • Maintains accurate records of student work and attendance.
  • Prepares thoroughly for each instructional hour.
  • Maintains a safe and orderly learning environment.
  • Grades and returns student work in a timely manner.
  • Counsels students regarding their grades and progress in the course.
  • Constructs classroom materials that support the goals of the course.
  • Designs curriculum and a schedule of instruction.
  • Uses assessment techniques to improve learning and teaching.
  • Maintains communication with instructors from other divisions to keep courses up-to-date.
  • Remains up-to-date on technology and methods of teaching with technology.
  • Attends professional development opportunities when possible.

Job description

Wake Technical Community College is seeking to expand our pool of part-time faculty to teach Philosophy classes. Openings for these positions may or may not be available at this time; however, after a review of qualifications, applicants may be contacted in the future. Adjunct faculty positions provide quality, effective instruction in assigned courses on a part-time, temporary basis at various locations.,

  • Instructs and guides the class in an efficient and effective manner
  • Maintains accurate records of student work and attendance
  • Prepares thoroughly for each instructional hour

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Demonstrated proficiency in oral and written communication.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and maintain positive working relationship with students, peers, supervisors and staff
  • Working knowledge of MS Office products
  • Knowledge of Blackboard, an online teaching tool is preferred
Requirements
  • Master's degree in Philosophy or at least 18 graduate hours in Philosophy

  • Community College teaching experience
  • Experience teaching "Critical Thinking" course at a post-secondary level
