Job summary

The University of the District of Columbia is seeking enthusiastic adjunct instructors to teach CDA I and II hours as part of UDС-WDLL. Incumbents will prepare and deliver curricula, use a variety of teaching methods, and align assessments with course objectives.

Responsibilities include developing syllabi, posting materials on the learning management system, maintaining attendance records, and meeting with the Dean as needed. Temporary, part-time positions with evening and weekend hours.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in the subject area.
  • Prior teaching experience or evidence of teaching potential.

  • Evaluate textbooks and instructional materials; prepare course materials and lesson plans.
  • Provide students with an approved syllabus that includes course objectives and learning outcomes, teaching methodology, attendance policies in line with those of the institution, texts and readings, assignments and deliverables, timelines, and evaluation criteria.
  • Use the institution’s learning management system to post syllabi, assignments, and other materials and to communicate with students.
  • Deliver course content using a variety of teaching styles and provide engaging assignments that demonstrate real-world applications of concepts.
  • Maintain records of enrollment and attendance, assessments, and grades, and submit class rosters & grade sheets by deadlines.
  • Provide an educational environment conducive to learning, establishing and maintaining classroom control.
  • Attend one or more orientation sessions to become familiar with the Institution’s mission and teaching philosophy, policies and procedures, and the learning management system.
  • Meet with the Dean or Pathway Director as needed to discuss all aspects of the course including student progress and curriculum development.

Brief Description of Duties

The University of the District of Columbia is a public land grant institution of higher learning dedicated to providing quality, career-focused undergraduate and graduate programs that prepare students with the knowledge, skills, and credentials needed to launch, enhance, or change careers. Incumbents must teach all assigned classes and hours as determined by the semester course schedule; Incumbents will be required to prepare and deliver relevant curriculum to students, using a variety of teaching methods to include, but are not limited to, lecture, class discussions, demonstration labs, and projects. The University of the District of Columbia’s Workforce Development (UDC-WDLL) is a department of the University of the District of Columbia (UDC). We are seeking enthusiastic and qualified adjunct instructors interested in teaching: Child Development Associate (CDA) instructional hours as a two-part course CDA I and II.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Teach assigned courses as specified in the schedule and course contract.
  2. Evaluate textbooks and instructional materials; prepare course materials and lesson plans.
  3. Provide students with an approved syllabus that includes course objectives and learning outcomes, teaching methodology, attendance policies in line with those of the institution, texts and readings, assignments and deliverables, timelines, and evaluation criteria.
  4. Use the institution’s learning management system to post syllabi, assignments, and other materials and to communicate with students.
  5. Deliver course content using a variety of teaching styles and provide interesting and engaging assignments that demonstrate the real-world applications of concepts covered.
  6. Maintain records of enrollment and attendance, assessments, and grades, and submit class rosters & grade sheets by the deadlines established by the institution.
  7. Provide an educational environment conducive to learning, establishing and maintaining classroom control.
  8. Encourage students to submit course evaluations/surveys, review course evaluations when available, and use feedback to improve course delivery.
  9. Attend all meetings, ceremonies, and official functions as specified by the Dean and Pathway Director.
  10. Attend one or more orientation session(s) to become familiar with the Institution’s mission and teaching philosophy, policies and procedures, and the learning management system.
  11. Meet with the Dean or Pathway Director as needed to discuss all aspects of the course including student progress and curriculum development (may be required to provide input into program development).
  12. Adhere to University policies and guidelines in all matters concerning academics and student and staff conduct.
Minimum Job Requirement
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience in the subject matter area
  • Prior teaching experience or must demonstrate evidence of teaching potential and/or corporate/industry training
