Job summary

Palm Beach State College seeks an adjunct biology instructor to teach in accordance with approved curricula and educational theories. Responsibilities include developing related curricula, assessing learning outcomes, and participating in program evaluation and college activities.

Responsibilities cover administering schedules, reviews, and program/course needs, with flexible work hours based on teaching assignments. Strong knowledge of Canvas LMS and Microsoft Office is required.

  • Supports student and curriculum reviews and articulation activities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

About this role

Instruct college students in accordance with educational theories and techniques.

Develops discipline related curricula, assess student learning, participates in program evaluation, and college activities.

Maintains college and department standards in support of the College's mission and strategic plan.

Work schedule varies according to teaching assignment.

Duties and Responsibilities: (This list is not exhaustive and may be supplemented as necessary)
  • Develops, maintains, interprets, and executes administrative procedures and practices.
  • This activity includes developing and maintaining manuals regarding the College's policies, procedures, rules, and standards.
  • Analyzes class and program needs of the College.
  • Determines and recommends the retention or deletion of courses.
  • Develops and coordinates program and course schedules, faculty assignments, and test dates.
  • Maintains calendar as necessary to track these schedules and adjusts as required.
  • Assist students and program curriculum, program and course reviews, and articulation activities.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Required Minimum Qualifications: Education and Experience:
  • Master’s degree in Biology or Master’s degree and 18 graduate semester hours in Biology.
  • OR Master’s degree in Anatomy & Physiology or Master’s degree and 18 graduate semester hours in Anatomy and Physiology or related fields.
Knowledge of:
  • Microsoft Office Professional or similar applications
  • Utilize Canvas Learning Management System and other instructional technologies
Ability to:
  • Interact positively with diverse populations and varying education levels of students, faculty, staff, and the public.
Work Environment and Physical Demand:
  • Reach and grasp objects
  • Stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, or crawl
  • Use of video display terminal
  • Use of manual dexterity and fine motor skills
  • Communicate information orally and in writing
  • Receive and understand information through oral and written communication
  • Proofread and check documents for accuracy

Pay Rates: Standard hourly rates vary based on the assigned course level and educational credentials.

Must have the ability to work a fluctuating schedule to include evenings and weekends.
