Salt Lake Community College invites applications for an adjunct faculty position to teach college-level mathematics to career/technical and transfer students. Courses may be on Miller campus or at other campus locations, with duties including grading, feedback, and maintaining records.

Appointment is per-semester, with no guaranteed employment. A Masters in mathematics (or related field with 18 graduate hours in math) is required, and experience teaching in synchronous environments is preferred.

Job description

Teach college level math courses to career/technical and college transfer students as assigned, whether on Miller campus or at other campus locations.

This is a pooled position. The department reviews applications as positions become available. This position is paid at $1,056 per instructional unit.

• 1) In accordance with SLCC policy, adjunct positions are offered on a semester-by-semester basis with no guarantee of continued employment.
• 2) Official transcripts are required for those who are offered employment within in 30 days of hire.1. Ability to implement successful pedagogical strategies for the teaching and learning of mathematics.
• 2. Follows the course curriculum outline, prepares and delivers lectures and other classroom activities.
• 3. Keeps accurate classroom records.
• 4. Coordinates Student ADA accommodation requests following college policy and procedures.
• 5. Answer student questions and provide necessary feedback on student progress.
• 6. Supports department assessment initiatives.
• 7. Meets College and department deadlines and evaluates student work in a timely manner including submitting final grades on time.
• 8. Completes all required trainings.
• 9. Demonstrate and supports professional commitment to division, school, and college mission and values.
• 10. Follows SLCC policies and procedures.
• 11. Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of diverse people, culture, ethnic background, and abilities, to maintain good working relationships across the College.
• 12. Ability to work with all groups in a diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic background of community college students, faculty and staff, including those with disabilities.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties Continued :

• 1. Become familiar with, and abide by, all college policies with immediate prioritygiven to those policies that govern interactions with colleagues, staff, administrators, and departments throughout the organization.
• 2. Maintain professional etiquette in communications with students, staff, faculty, and administrators.
• 3. Provides appropriate and timely feedback for all assignments.
• 4. Returns graded assignments in a timely fashion per department standards.
• 5. Maintains student attendance records (for Financial Aid purposes) and grades.
• 6. Conducts a variety of appropriate evaluations of student performance. Informs students of progress to date periodically and assigns and submits grades by published deadlines.
• 7. Assists in maintaining a safe and mutually respectful instructional environment.
• 8. Follows and abides by the Code of Student Rights and Responsibilities Policy.
• 9. Handles/responds to student concerns/complaints and responds to student communications and inquiries promptly (generally within 1-2 days).
• 10. Maintains professional appearance as defined by the discipline and/or College procedure.
• 11. Completes all required employee trainings.
• 12. Knows and enforces FERPA guidelines.
• 13. Administer ADA accommodations as needed.

All Faculty will maintain an on-site campus presence to encourage in-person relationships and create engaging, meaningful, and impactful learning experiences unless approved for on-line only courses. You are employed as an Adjunct Faculty member/ Instructor on a contract-to-contract basis, with no future expectation or obligation for employment. Your employment may be terminated At Will at any time. You are required to maintain professional boundaries with all SLCC students.

The Mathematics Department requires the following from an accredited college or university:

• Masters' degree in mathematics, or
• Masters' degree in a closely related area with 18 graduate semester hours in mathematics.
• Experience teaching in synchronous teaching environment.
