The Chronicle Of Higher Education, Inc. seeks a part-time Welding instructor at Baton Rouge Community College (BRCC) to deliver industry-aligned training and assess student learning.

Qualifications

  • Five(5) years of journeyman level welding experience.
  • AWS or NCCER welding certification(s).
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work with students and respond to concerns.
  • Higher Education teaching experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Teach welding courses with student-focused learning experiences.
  • Provide course syllabus and schedule; maintain office hours (minimum 10/week).
  • Adhere to master course syllabi and BRCC policies; maintain records.
  • Assist with registration, orientation, and recruitment as needed.
  • Ensure IBC and accreditation requirements are met; maintain AWS/NCCER certifications.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Teaching: 75%
  • Provide learning experiences in accordance with students' needsand abilities
  • Use learning resources to help students learn
  • Assess student learning in accordance with college policy
  • Provide each student with a course syllabus and schedule
  • Maintain a minimum of 10 office hours per week
  • Meet all scheduled classes within the appropriate timeframe
  • Advise students and assist with registration, orientation, and recruitment as needed
  • Follow the approved master course syllabi
  • Maintain accurate grade and attendance records
  • Submit syllabi, office hours, grades, attendance, electronic timesheets, and other reports by established deadlines
  • Assure that all Industry Based Certification (IBC) andaccreditation requirements are maintained
  • Maintain current AWS and/or NCCER certifications
Administrative: 10%
  • Notify dean/department chair of absence with course substitutionplan in a timely manner.
  • Attend all departmental, division, and general facultymeetings
  • Attend convocations and participate in graduation exercise(attired in appropriate academic regalia)
  • Adhere to professional standards of conduct
  • Participate in the faculty evaluation process
Service: 5%
  • Contribute to the college and your discipline by collaboratingwith others and offering your service to the college
  • Represent BRCC and actively engage the community's business andindustry
Professional Development: 5%
  • Engage in continual professional development activities as itrelates to pedagogy, assessment, and faculty area ofexpertise
Other Duties as Assigned: 5%
Required Education
  • AmericanWelding Society (AWS) or Other Relevant WeldingCertification(s)
Required Experience
  • Five(5) years of journeyman level work experience.

Required Licenses or Certifications
Preferred Education
  • American Welding Society (AWS) or Other Relevant WeldingCertification(s)
Preferred Experience
  • Previous teaching experience preferred.
  • Applicants must possess at least 5 years of welding experience aswell as industry-based certifications.
  • The preferred applicant may possess an Associate Degree in anyfield or be committed to an educational program of study leading toan Associate Degree or higher.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Dynamic reading skills and speaking voice required
  • Must be able to generate class materials, reports and master theoperation and skills required to maximize the productivity throughbest practices and planning.
  • Must have excellent leadership, communication, critical thinking,teamwork skills, and be willing to think outside of the box.
  • Must have an equivalent combination of education, training and onthe job experiences to provide students with the knowledge andskills to become successful technicians.
