Qualifications

  • Experience with companion diagnostics/biomarkers preferred.
  • Experience in NGS, clinical laboratory, molecular pathology, bioinformatics or healthcare data analytics is a plus.
  • Online teaching experience in higher education preferred.
  • Computer literacy with common software/tools.

Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality instruction and support for online students.
  • Offer timely feedback on student work and manage office hours.
  • Facilitate classes up to 29 students and place students in groups on Canvas.
  • Enter final grades and communicate issues to lead faculty.
  • Participate in faculty meetings and complete required training.

Job description

ACU is affiliated with the fellowship of Churches of Christ. This position requires the employee to be a professing Christian and to be willing to support the Christian mission of ACU.

Reports to the Precision Medicine Program Director.

The position is part of the faculty team working together to support online students in their pursuits of graduate degrees.

Basic Responsibilities

Provide high-quality instruction, direction and support for students in the online classroom environment.

Essential Duties

Other duties may be assigned. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals to perform the essential functions.

A. Provide high-quality instruction, direction and support for students in the online classroom environment.

  1. Provide rich and timely feedback on student work, being both encouraging and constructively critical.
  2. Facilitate a range of class sizes, up to 29 students.
  3. Place students in groups on Canvas for assignments/discussions.
  4. Provide timely and helpful answers to students’ inquiries regarding course material or academic matters.
  5. Be available for virtual meetings with students one-on-one or in group settings and hold a minimum of two office hours per week.
  6. Facilitate and grade all assignments in a timely manner (within 24-72 hours).
  7. Enter final course grades after consultation with the lead faculty and/or program director by deadline.
  8. Alert lead faculty or Program Director to any student issues. This includes performance issues (e.g. failing grades, failing to turn in assignments, etc.) and policy violation issues (e.g. plagiarism).
  9. Comply with all pertinent policies and procedures outlined in Abilene Christian University’s Handbook, Faculty Guidelines, and those specified by ACU’s College of Health and Human Services.
  10. Provide feedback to the Program Director for program and/or course improvement.
  11. Participate in faculty meetings as able.
  12. Attend/complete program and faculty training and provide credentialing/records updates as required.
  13. Other duties, as assigned and directed by lead faculty and/or Program Director.

Qualifications
A. Professional
  1. Terminal degree in pharmaceutical sciences, pharmacy, biology, genetics, chemistry, medicine, bioinformatics, epidemiology or other related fields .
  2. Experience in discovery and/or use of companion diagnostics/biomarkers in the prevention, detection and/or treatment of diseases preferred.
  3. Experience in NGS, clinical laboratory, molecular pathology, bioinformatics, healthcare data analytics,
  4. AI, or applied genomics is a plus.
  5. Previous online teaching experience in higher education strongly preferred.
  6. Computer literate in software and internet-based applications.

Physical Demands
  1. A. Majority of work is performed in front of a computer and on the telephone; must have the ability to use the computer and remain stationary for long periods of time.
  2. B. Manage conversations in person, online and by telephone.
  3. C. Work well under pressure and manage stress well.
  4. D. Communicate clearly: speak, read, write, and hear clearly to perform essential functions.
